  • late check out

Me: thanks for calling us, this is Dave. How may I help you?

Guest: yea I was calling for a late check out

    Me: OK for what property?

    Guest tells me her property

Me: Ok someone is checking in there today so unfortunately I cant give a late check out

Guest: well I am sorry but I am not leaving at 10, I am just not gonna do it. I am not rushing out the door to accomodate you, you are supposed to be accomodating me.

Me: if you dont leave by 10, you will be charged for an extra day

Guest: Well I called the concierge (she pronounced it con-sir-gee) and she never called me back so I think you should extend my check out time for the inconvenience.

Me: I cant.....someone is coming in today

Guest: Ok I tried being nice but now I am gonna demand a later check out. I am not leaving at 10

Me: I am sorry but that is the check out time

Guest: How about this? I will leave whenever the f___ I want and dont you dare charge me. I shouldnt have to pay you people anything for this disaster of a vacation we had. Our bikes got delivered late, the "consirgee" told me the wrong night for karaoke and my little girl was absolutely devestated, and on top of that I had to wash my own towels because you assholes wanted to charge me for an extra set. Now you expect me to do you a favor, I think not

Me: Fllowing our policies is not doing us a favor, it's abiding by the terms of the contract you signed

Guest: I dont give a shit about that contract

Me: well if you arent out by 10, you pay for an extra day. You agreed to that.

Guest: well now I am "un-agreeing"

Me: Ma'am this is not negotiable......you're out by 10 or you pay for an extra day

Sadly, she talked to the manager and got her way and she complained about me. They extended her check out until 1 PM

I'm surprised you haven't cut loose with any kind of firearm yet. The amount of people that think they can walk all over you because they're on their vacation simply astounds me.

Your manager is a spineless jerk.

I understand wanting to keep customers happy so they will come back and spread good word of mouth BUT the ones who are jerks just aren't worth it. They shouldn't be the ones that the managers try so hard to keep!

            It's certainly right up there.

Entitled twits with money pose all sorts of problems, including spineless pushover managers who want to keep them happy and spending money with them.

Actually, why do you want to cave to the customer when you're already gonna have to give the people coming in that day freebies for waiting on her majesty there? But then I never went to management school (or got a lobotomy, probably about the same result) to learn these things.

Apologies to any managers who aren't idiots out there, you are a rare breed indeed.

I can't believe people get away with that. Seriously....if I were to go to say, McDonalds, and was told there'd be a wait on my food, and I said "NO, I will NOT wait, you will GIMME that food NOW!"....what do you think would happen? I'd probably be laughed at.

If I went to a gas station and got carded, if I flipped out and said "NO, you will NOT be needing to see that. I'm 21 years old, you CAN'T card me!" what do you think would happen?

It seems like your managers give into a lot of outlandish requests. Are they that butt-hurt for business or are they just weak?

Hey VRS, how long have you been at your current job anyway? Based on all the stories, I am guessing quite awhile.

I pity whoever has to rush to clean up after that jerk before the next group comes in as well.
