  • I am not paying that balance

Guest wanted a discount and couldnt get one so he got a little creative on us....he paid the rental amount less the 15% discount he felt entitled to....and then cancelled his credit card before accounting could charge the rest thus causing the credit card to decline. Of course, we kept calling and calling and calling him about it and he wouldnt return our calls

He shows up to check in and still owes us $2000

Me: ok sir, I see a $2000 balance on here

Guest: yea that was the discounted portion of my reservation. You all refused to give me a discount so I gave myself one

Me: Ok so how do you wish to pay this balance?

    Guest: I'm not paying it

Me: well I cant check you in with an unpaid balance

    Guest: the hell you wont

Me: sir, this balance must be paid before I can release keys

Guest: gimme the damn keys and check me in.....I was due a discount and you wouldnt give me one so you can just eat that money

Me: no sir, I am not giving you the keys until the balance is paid

Guest: get your manager up here

Guest explains the situation to my manager

Manager: sir, you are a valued customer and I will tell you what....I will go ahead and zero out this balance for you this one time. We appreciate youe business

Guest: I am not trying to be a dick about this, I am just asking for what is rightfully mine

Ugggggggg.... I am still seething about this

Is it just me, or is it that the more money you have/make, the more entitled you think you are?

I mean seriously, I've seen this kind of thing happen way too often, and not just in VRS's stories.

Like I said in a previous post, a manager waives off money like that, it should come directly out of their own paycheck/bonuses. That's the finest spine growth I can think of.

I'm okay with managers who will "negotiate" with a customer, but to outright do that, is not cool in my book

Wow, your manager is a fucking moron. I can't believe he wiped a $2000 balance! This guy is obliviously a scammer and will do this again. I think I would of got fired if I was in the same position as you because I would of after the guy left called the manager a fucking idiot for caving in to a guy who is so blatantly a scammer

Pardon me for being so confused. If all the villas are really privately owned, and the company Vacation Rentals works for only handles the management of the rentals, how does the company justify to an owner that a guest did not pay the rental price the owner set?

Pity your manager missed such a golden opportunity to teach the SC a lesson by not prosecuting for credit card fraud.

Dude, if your manager is really that spineless you should start shaking him down for lunch money.

oh yeah, we used to have that problem with no show charges (people calling in and whining and having a spineless manager cave and reverse the charge), but our new owners have said that with the exception of guest satisfaction issues that our the fault of the hotel (ie, we were oversold and they had to take a downgrade from what they booked, or there was maintanence problems, etc) any reversal of charges or comp room has to be approved by the owner, not the manager... and trust me, the owner will be much more consious of where the dollars are going than the managers are.

And smiley, that's exactly how it should be in my book - owners should be the ones to approve of discounts, etc. And if business is so heavy that it's no longer a one man job, the owner can delegate something like that... but I agree, IMO, managers have a responsibility to back their employee's, not train customers that they can get what they want by caving in all the time.

Now with us, we will give a bigger unit for a lower price, if we have rented out the sizes that they had needed or they wanted a covered RV space - and we were filled up. We eat the cost, but we still make money

Spineless managers make me want to punch things.

I bet while the manager was zeroing out that $2000 balance, the SC was smirking at you, like "Ha ha ha ha ha! I got what I wanted and you look like a dork! Ha ha!"

You know he's gonna keep doing that again & again, right? I've heard of spineless manangers but he takes the "Bronze Medal" for this one.
What's the point of following established rules & procedures if a manager can just come in there & cave to an SC & then make you look like an ass cause you were just doing your job?

                          VCR:

Maybe you just post more stories then most folks but my gawd man, if the frequency of your stories is any indication you have some of the worst customers on the face of the planet AND some of the most spineless management staff to ever run a business.

I thought I was pretty jaded but some of your stories actually piss me off. Not at you personally but rather how low a level some of your customers sink to and how quickly some of your staff crumple under pressure.

I asked this on another of your threads, but exactly who eats these underserved rate reductions; the villa owners or your company?

Y'know... Methinks the OWNERS might want to know about this guy's constant caving. Seriously, start making some hard documentation and send it annonymously to Corporate.
