  • No drink for you!

So the rule at my casino, this part is important, the rule set by the BC lottery corperation (BCLC) is that patrons are only allowed to have a drink every 45 minutes, the casino did not pull this out of their ass, it's a regulation they have to follow. As stupid as people may think it is it's to protect people from getting drunk and losing their life savings or whatever and going after the casino for letting us do that.

So I had some players at my table, they had ordered beers, and they went to order another one and they were told they had to wait another 15 minutes. They are "outraged" at this. The woman keeps saying that she's going to write a letter, although she's not entirely sure who she should be writing said letter to. The husband and another player are going on about how in vegas they get free drinks blah blah. So after the 15 min the server comes back with thier beers the woman turns to him and says:

SW: so when did you start the babysitting service?
Server: has a look of WTF? on his face
SW: why do we have to wait for drinks for 45 minutes
Server: explains the policy to them, basically we are not a bar, we don't want to get you drunk. etc.
SW: well that's dumb, we're adults we should be able to have fun! (as a side note, am I the only person who doesn't equate alcohol with fun?)
They pay for their drinks and the server leaves. Later on a Supervisor comes by to talk to them, he explains again that it's a BCLC regulation, and not just the casino's rule, they have to follow it to keep their liscence. And that if they'd like to write to the BCLC they're free to do so. He leaves and they continue to bitch

The guy beside them then says this:
SC: well we could always go downstairs (there's a bar in the hotel that's attatched to the casino) get drunk and come back up.

I just shake my head, I'd really love to watch security boot them out for being drunk , because if you are stumbling drunk you are not allowed into the casino, for the reasons I stated before. They don't seem to understand that despite what they may think about casinos they don't want to steal your money, they don't want you to lose everything (at least mine doesn't, I can't speak for all of them of course) and they want to look out for their customers.

I think I'd be a bit miffed too. It's a stupid rule. Kick people out if they're drunk, but adults really should be given the leeway to make up their own mind about how many drinks, and how often, they can have.

No blame to you or the casino, obviously. BCLC make stupid rules.

I don't drink...never have. Really don't need it to have fun.

Personally I love this rule and give kudos for it.

It's a good rule. Personally, I drink occasionally. Not to get drunk, but it's nice once in a while. Don't need it to have fun, but it can add to it for the sheer silly factor.

I can't stand the smell of alcohol, so I've never touched it. I can achieve the same effect with Kool-Aide, minus the all night vomiting and massive hangover the next morning.

But kudos to the BCLC for protecting the customers like that.

              I hardly ever drink alcohol.

This isn't your "recovering alcoholic must go teetotal to avoid falling off the wagon again" business - I simply don't enjoy being drunk. So I only drink, and modestly at that, when it seems to be socially expected.

Even then, I'm usually drinking something different to everyone else, since I hate the taste of beer, and don't care for vodka either.

I personally think more establishments need a rule like this. But then, I come from a family of alcoholics, and as a result, only imbibe one every few months, if that.

I admit, I did kick back with some Tequila Rose the other night, but it had been a BAD week.

Why can't people see the logic in rules that make SENSE?

See, I drink. I'm the type who has fun when I drink, but I don't drink to have fun. I'm also the type who takes an hour to finish a drink.

I think that rule is a good one. I will never understand people who bitch about what basically amounts to a government policy to people who can do nothing to change it.

there seems to be some confusion paticularly by the non-drinkers, there is a difference between having a drink and getting drunk. I can go out for the night, drink alcohol throughout and not get drunk, similarly if i want to i can get druunk in a short space of time. I think the rule should be changed at the legislative level to allow for customers to drink as much as they want, but as soon as thye appear drunk they are forced to leave.

No, I never saw any connection either.

I play games for the challenge, and find that most people, even if not noticably drunk, lose their edge after a couple of drinks, which is disappointing for me if I'm playing them. Now, while I'm sure their opponents appreciate that it's easier to take money off them, I can understand the government's position, too. I'm not sure how much I agree with it, but then again, I prefer friendly games to money-on games, so the situation's not likely to come up with me.

Besides, if you let them stay until they get drunk, that's a lot of potentially sucky situations that can develop in an area where a lot of money changes hands.

At the same time, as rules go, it's not particularly useful. Someone who's been drinking their whole life and has a high tolerance for alcohol, or a larger person, won't take as much effect from their drink as a smaller person, or a non-drinker.

Give a tiny woman a shot glass full of 151 (or everclear, if the bar even stocks it) for her one 'drink' and she'll probably be hammered in short order, regardless.

The customers *are* right in that it's a stupid rule. The earlier-mentioned rule about kicking them out when they appear drunk- and you have that rule in place as well anyhow- should suffice.

The flip side is that, given that the customers were informed of the rule, continuing to bitch about it is equally pointless. If they don't like it, they can go to Vegas.

Now now guys no need to put those of us who are social drinkers down. ;P I equate alcohol with lots of rampaging crazy fun in New York City. I don't need it but man does it make it funnier. Then again I'm a weirdo who loves the taste of tequila.

Personally I think watching people being "silly" while being drunk...pathetic.

Those drunk college kid movies that they have on TV or show as people going in nightclubs...I'm not laughing with them. I'm laughing AT them cause to me they look stupid.

Again these are my views and only my views.

Oh, you can drink. You can drink all that you want. You just can't drink there.

And I for one think it's a good rule, that should be more common. Drinking alcohol is alright (I myself can't do it, only being 19) but getting drunk? I don't know, it seems childish to me. "Hey, let's drink as much of this stuff as we can! Maybe if we drink enough we won't be able to control ourselves! Our actions, our words, even our bladders will be completely out of control! Sounds like a blast! Then, tomorrow, we won't remember what happened!"

Or maybe that's just my impression.
