its been a long couple weeks.....i had to pull one extra eight hour shift, and work 2 hours over another eight hour shift due to somebody beind sick......

    A Love Letter

Dear woman who thinks she doesn't have to pay,

this is a love letter. no, not the love letter you think it is. im writing to tell you, that i am going to LOVE telling you, that the next time you come in, you either pay for BOTH products you used, or i will be calling the police.

its bad enough that you sprayed a body spray tester all over you to the point that when i walked down the aisle, i had a sneezing fit. but then i hear you spraying something else from the next aisle.

do you remember me telling you that the Lusters Hair shine you just sprayed ALL over your hair, had to be paid for before you left? remember you saying you were going to? that you wouldn't use a product without paying for it? you are a liar. last time i checked, buying something, doesn't mean leaving it on the magazine rack.
also, i know you think you got away with this, but the Lets Jam regular hold you left wide open on the shelf with an obvious two fnger dip in it,....well...you didnt get away with it.... c'mon...at least try hiding the fact you used it....leaving the lid upside down, halfway across the bottle isn't concealing the evidence....

its like you didn't even care that you used porduct you weren't buying...oh wait. that is a normal coming from a useless piece of trash.

    nope....aint doin it

we regularly have this same customer do this. it just happens to be for her church. i don't know what church....

every so often, this lady comes in, and finds a manager. she then goes onto this speil about how she is having this party, or fundraiser for her church. she rattles on for a bit, then gets to the point..."what will you sell me for 25 to 50 cents?" that in itself, isn't bad. but after being told no, there isnt anything here that cheap, she then proceeds to ask for discounts on EVERYTHING she buys. she will go to every employee and ask where all the 25-50 cent products. honey, this is Walgreens. go to the Dollar Tree.
when she goes to check out, she gets the manager again, and on any and all clearance item she has in her cart, she asks for more of a discount on it. the thing with that, is my store automatically clearances everything taken out of plano to 75% off, because it won't sell at my store otherwise. until we implemented this program, our clearnace end just sat the entire year, not moving. so she is already getting things dirt cheap.

    Please go get your meds...

this guy, i have seen a couple times, but not too many. he has never acted like this before though.

it was on a sunday morning, i believe. there are only three employees in the store at this time. me, front casheir, and AM. i was going to grab some stuff for me to drink through the day, and chips for my lunch later. as i was walking back to to my counter with my stuff, the front cashier asked me to help a customer.

    SC- obvious
Me- the one and only star of this show!

Sc- i need corn cushions for my feet! im in a hurry!

Me- ok. they are at the back.....(i got interrupted. i was going to say at the back of aisle one, ill show you where)

Sc- JUST SHOW ME! im in a rush lets go!

at this point, he just starts walking the wrong way. i start going the right way, and am about to say, its this way, when he yells again, LEts go!

Me-we are going. but they are THIS way. come with me.

Sc- come on! lets go. im in a rush. come on! geez.....

as we walk by my counter, i set my stuff down without pausing. i expected him to say something, but he didn't. he just keeps yelling at how he is in a rush.

we get back there, and he complains that im too slow. i start pointing out the different types of product we have.

Sc- i only have a few bucks! i have to get to grayslake! i got to go! im just going to get something. if i don't have enough money, youll take what i have, and then ill come back later! im trustworthy!

Me- ....no. if you don't have enough money, you don't take anything.

    Sc- yes i will.

my AM walks by at this point, so i call him over. sc explains what he wants, with much yelling about him being in a rush. the problem was, when we tried pointing out a product, he would interrupt us.

Sc- i just want something for my toe! how hard is that! you are stupid! are you guys slow? how much clearer cani get. i need something for a blister!(before it was a corn, now its a blister)

so i go over to another aisle, and get something for blisters. thank god he decides he wants that. it $4.99 plus tax. he was kneeling down looking at products,so he just takes out all his change, and throws it on the floor.

Sc- there your money. ill take that and go.

AM- we have to ring it through the register first. if you odn't have enough, you aren't getting it

i walk away to go ring it up. after i scan it in, i hit total, and then i put the produt under my counter, until i get money. i didn't want him grabbign it and running.

as i walk back, i hear my AM trying to get him to go to the register. it finally clicks with SC, and wants us to pick his money up for him. at this point, we don't feel like helping him. although...niether of us were really mad at him. i found it kinda humerous that he was making himself look like an idiot.

SC- your a piss poor manager! you won't help me! you shouldn't be a manager! your a piss poor manager! (repeat about 10 times.)

we finally get to the register. remember the stuff i said i sat on the counter? he starts shoving it, saying over and over,"move your shit off the counter! get your shit off the counter!"

he then throws down his change, and starts to walk away, saying he will come back and pay for the rest later. my AM starts getting mad, until i tell him the SC doesn't have the product.

the sc comes back, and we start counting the change. we get the money, but then he wants his quarters back. so he takes them all back. but now we are short. so he gives me all but two quarters back....finally, the transaction is done.

my AM then says he is banned. the SC does a COMPLETE turn around. all of a sudden, he is remorseful, apologizing over and over! he says he gets his meds here and everybody knows him! then he wants to shake our hands! ugh....

he finally starts leaving, but then stops at the front register, where another customer is checking out. the SC got the other customer so flustered, that he leaves without his purchase! he paid, and walked out.
the SC walks out the door, and a lady walks in. the sc walks right back in, and is trying to speak to her. i can tell she is uncomfortable, so i go right over to her, and try speaking to her, toget him away from her. i ask if i can help her with anything, and all she says is,"yeah, you can get HIM away from me." i tell her we are trying.

he finally leaves for good....i ask the AM if the ban is sticking. nope! its cause he takes meds, and if he doesn't take his meds, he acts like that! so he isn't banned.

But if he's not taking his meds...
I'm sorry, but while I sympathise with his condition (whatever that may be), I have to think that allowing someone unpredictable like to bother the other customers as he was clearly doing might not be someone you want returning.

I don't know. I don't want to be seen as unkind but he's not exactly showing that he can be trusted not to just totally freak out one day because he chose not to take his meds.

That's assuming he wasn't lying about the meds. And ... i hate to sound mean but... the fact that he gets meds from you therefore means he's allowed to come in and abuse you when he's off the meds?

Then again... letting him buy his meds from you does NOT mean you have to let him in the store.

I would not be serving him again. Surely they can ban him, but still allow friends/family members to buy him his meds. Or keep his meds to one side and when he's spotted, immediately snatch him and take his payment. If there was someone in my family who acted like that I'd never allow him out alone again! May sound harsh but whatever his problem is, it shouldn't result in abuse towards workers.

I wish I was joking, but we actually had a case go to trial wherein a visibly sunburned woman wearing a bikini bottom and a spaghetti strap shirt had walked into a supermarket, headed straight for the first-aid aisle, broke the seal and opened a box of a sunburn treatment spray, pulled out the spray bottle, sprayed all of her exposed skin with the stuff, put the bottle back into its box, put the box back onto the shelf, and started to walk out of the store. Loss prevention had taken note of her (skantily clad women do stand out), and stopped her as she got to the door. She claimed she was only "sampling" the product that now glistened over her entire body. Police were called and the woman's husband (who had been waiting for her in the car with the motor running in the fire lane just in front of the entrance) came in and tried to convince everyone that his wife just wanted to see if the stuff worked.

The woman demanded a jury trial, and both she and her husband tried again to tell the jury that her almost emptying the bottle really was only sampling of the product. The judge (in a very odd move) asked her at the close of her testimony to waive the jury and let him decide the case, but she refused. The jury not only found her guilty, it assessed the maximum fine.

After the trial, the judge told her that he would have found her not guilty because the store had no signs telling people not to open and use products before buying them, and he thought there should have been a definition in the store that would let people know how much of something would be considered a sample. When the prosecutor said that most people understood all that through basic common sense, the judge threatened to hold him in contempt. Thankfully, that guy isn't a judge anymore!

meds or no meds, his behavior was unacceptable; if he felt enough 'remorse' to apologize when under the threat of the ban, then he knew all along that his behavior was wrong, but chose to behave that way regardless.

the ban should have stuck; just because someone takes meds doesn't mean it 'fixes' their problem (assuming they're not lying in the first place, of course).

we all think this, but it is well past time for businesses to support those they hire when 'customers' become abusive, rather than coddle and support this kind of nonsense, make it clear that they are the customer, but that's not carte blanche for them to abuse, belittle or demean employees for any reason, period.

Sounds like that judge needed to hit the books, and refresh his memory on the "reasonable man" standard.

Since he's no longer a judge, I guess he didn't.

                honey, this is Walgreens.
YES! All of these stories sounded like the people who come into my store too... WALGREENS!

We truly get the craziest of people.
                I work at Walgreens.

(I'm just tired of mentioning it every time I want to relate to a story. )

Oh, fuck no. His "penitent mental case off his meds" schtick wouldn't fly with me.

Your mental disorder, which you are doing nothing to treat, is not an acceptable reason to treat the staff the way he treated your staff. And saying "sorry" over and over doesn't make it go away.

If I was in charge, he'd never be allowed back in the store.

That guy had no business being a judge at a "Tightest Buns in Tomah" competition, let alone a judge of the law.

i don't agree with it either. but im not in a position to argue. the way i put it to my SM, was,"i undersatnd that he has a mental illness, and that he can't help it if he doesn't take his meds. but it gives him no right, to NOT take his meds, and come in here, and treat us horribly, when we are trying to help him."

unfortunately, i live near a residence for people who fought in wars, who were mentally damaged due to the wars. i get lots of people who scare us.... i know it isnt there fault, and i feel bad for it.

yes, walgreens truely does get some VERY crazy people.

                      Look on the bright side...

As a fellow Walgreens person, I'm the one they have to get their meds from. Contemplate explaining to that fellow that he shouldn't need his meds yet, the insurance won't pay for them for another week. That's fun.
