Ok I should tell you all how our lost and found works....we keep items for 30 days, if they havent been claimed after that, either one of us employees will take it home or it will de donated to charity. In fact, thats how I got my digital camera....someone just left it in a unit and never called to claim it.





Me: ok do you know where you may have left in the unit?

Guest: well yea but it was from last year

Me: we only keep items in our lost and found for 30 days, after that we get donate them

Guest: that was an watch passed down from my great grandfather

Me: and you're just now calling about it after a year?

Guest: I have called six times. We live in Japan and the international calls are expensive.

Me: well I am sorry sir but if you left that watch last year, I guarantee we wont have it

Guest: so how do we proceed with this?

Me: there is nothing to proceed with....the watch is gone

Guest: well do you know who has it?

Me: no sir

Guest: boy you're a big f___ing help.

Me: sir, what do you want me to do?

Guest: help me track down my watch

Me: sir, thats impossible

Guest: well this is your responsibility

Me: sir, read your contract....it clearly says we are not responsible for items left in our rental units

Guest: but this is a family heirloom....I wanted to pass it on to my son.

Me: sir I am very sorry

Guest: yea go f___ yourself.....you will hear from my lawyer

Harsh life lesson that one had better keep a closer idea on one's possessions.

For instance, I rarely wear my sunglasses. I had a prescription pair of sunglasses, very stylish and somewhat expensive. Last time I wore them was going to a Chili's. When dinner was finished, it was dark out so I didn't need the sunglasses anymore.

A few months later when I wanted to wear my sunglasses again, I was looking for them everywhere and simply couldn't find them at all. Then it finally hit me...I last wore them to Chili's, and I don't remember taking them with me again!


So yeah, sucks to be me. I'm not about to demand that they turn over my sunglasses after such a long period of time. Expensive lesson to keep better track of my items.

We get that where I work a couple times. If they do not pay on their unit for up too three months, they go to auction. It is not my fault if they needed something that they had in storage that didn't get paid on in 3 months. I am not going to tell you who those buyers are or where they live.

your customers are always so mean.

we actually have the (sorta) same policy at my store. We keep things around for...a while. Usually about 3 months and then it's fair game.

It's those most precious of family heirlooms that one is always sure to leave in a rented condo and not call about for a year. But knowing your manager, he'll probably go out and buy one for the douchebag.

Since VRS got the digital camera, his manager decided to take the watch. Bet he won't admit it to the guest.
