  • The SC Test

This is a test to determine whether you (or anyone else) is an SC. The lower your score, the better customer you are. Now begin.

1-The cashier (or whoever you are paying) has made a mistake and overcharged you. Do you:
    a) calmly point out the error and politely inform them what the price should be (or if it is an insignificant amount, let it go)
    b) scream at the cashier belittling them for their error and embarassing them for being human.

2-You have been undercharged for something. Do you
    a) be honest and point out the error, and agree to pay for it
    b) leave the store and ignore the error
That is to say, if you even notice the error.

3-You have made a mess in the store (in a number of non-specific ways.) Do you
    a) let an employee know and/or clean it up
    b) ignore it and leave the mess for someone else to clean up

4-You forget something while you are checking out. Do you:
    a) volunteer to step out of line to get the item
    b) act like you are entitled to go and get it and keep your place in line.
    c) ask an employee politely to get it for you, so you can keep your place in line.

5-You are in an express line with a line of people behind you, and you have more than the allowed number of items. Do you:
    a) move to another line which has no restrictions
    b) glare at people and refuse to move, or demand that another register be opened.
    c) continue and hope nobody notices.

6-You are made aware that there is a malfunction with the register you are at. When asked to move do you:
    a) move to the other register without complaint
    b) make a big fuss about the inconvenience of having to move 10 feet

7-You have seen someone physically or emotionally harassing a worker. Do you:
    a) become a bodyguard, or defend the worker in any way.
    b) join in
    c) ignore it

8-Your child begins to throw a tantrum in the store. Do you:
    a) leave with the child and try to calm him down outside
    b) ignore the tantrum until it bothers everyone around
    c) try and calm the child while in the store

9-You come into the store during its busiest time, and decide to shop anyways. When you naturally encounter lines at checkout do you:
    a) figure that it is your fault for shopping when it is busy and wait
    b) bitch at the cashier or manager to open more registers

10-In a restaurant, your food was prepared incorrectly, or the wrong meal was brought. Do you:
    a) either politely ask for a change of the meal to what you wanted, or eat it anyways
    b) demand that your whole party's meal be comped because of the mistake
    c) ask that your meal be discounted because you were forced to delay eating.

Give yourself 1 point for every B answer. Subtract a point for an A answer. C answers are neutral.

-10 to -8: You are a perfect customer. You will never be written about on this site
-4 to -8: You make the occasional mistake but are overall an okay customer
-3 to 1: You have made mistakes in the past, but can see the errors of your ways. Fix it so you don't become higher.
2 to 7: You have caused a lot of people headaches in this business, but there is something there that you can build on. Work on changing your B answers to A.
8-10: You are a PITA customer who is always written about on this site. Workers cringe when they see you. There is no help for you without a COMPLETE about-face.

Hope everyone here got -8 to -10!!

*MOD EDIT - Please, just post your score. This thread is going to get really huge if everyone posts the entire quiz as a quote with their answers.

I got either a -10 or a -9 depending...#5's hard, since I generally go to the grocery store at times around, say 1-2am when I need food (damn graveyard shift). This means I occasionally have an entire 1-2 weeks worth of stuff, and the only spots open are the self check-out express lanes

If that counts as a bad answer, then -9 Or would that be 8? I'm too tired for thought

-10 here. I used to be -8 ... but, now that I'm calm when reaming out management, I get a -10.

I scored -6 to -8 depending on how you'd score these two

#4-if you're behind someone just starting a 200 item order, asking them to hold your spot is fine, because it looks like your cart belongs to the person with the huge order, and making it 2 transactions doesn't slow the line down much, so it doesn't decieve other shoppers, and you'll be back before the cashier gets through 200 items

#7-is very complicated, there is a certain amount you have to just deal with, and most instances I don't know. I've been able to calm coworkers down after SCs before, and I've found that having a couple nice customers after the SC is all I need, so I really don't know what I'd do

Just as I thought-no SC's here. Not many perfect scores, but nobody's perfect . At least we don't write about ourselves.

I scored a -9. I got this one wrong because at the Walmart Supercenter where I live, they at their busiest time (Christmas season, Saturday Afternoon) out of 36 registers they only had SIX (6) registers open.

Now I know that it is partially my fault, but the most I've EVER seen them have open out of 36 registers is 9 and that was a Thursday night in May around 8pm. Normally they only have between 5-7 open at any given time.

These [smurf]ers need to consider Self-Checkout. One person can look over 6 registers by themselves.

-9 or -10 for me. Depending on the "you create a mess, what do you do" -question. If it's reeeeeeeeeeeally embarrassing, I may leave it there and not tell anybody - but I would nevah evah go back to that store. Sorry.
