  • "Why can't I use YOUR Sam's Club Card?"

So I'm at the exit door checking to make sure people have their Sam's Club card when these girls walk up to me & tell me they want to shop but don't have a card. So before I get a chance to direct them to the membership desk to apply for one the one girl asks me if she could use MY card! She explained that she'd use her friend's card but she wasn't with her today. I said.."I'm sorry but I can't do that".
    She said..."Well, why not?"
I said..."I could lose my job if I did that"
She then said.."So do it anyway!"
& I finally said..."Look, I'm NOT giving you my card & if you want one then go over to the membership desk"

She got pissed & went over to the membership desk all while giving me a glare that could fell mountains.
I don't even let my family use my Sam's Club card so why would I let a complete stranger use it? How dumb did she think I was?

I hate people who do that. We get people at my work who ask to use another person's loyalty card or if the store has one.

My reply to that is usually a firm-sounding "No" while biting my tongue to keep from laughing. Basically, the cards are linked to the cardholder, not to a central database. If person 1 was using person 2's card, then the reward would go to person 2 NOT person 1.

And for two, there's a biiiiiiig difference between a Sam's card that you *gasp* pay for, and a Kroger/Albertson's/Tom Thumb/whatever card that they hand out for free (well, ok, after you scribble down some gibberish on a form) and often have "store" cards at the registers.

I've no problem scanning my Kroger card for total strangers. If I had a Sam's or Costco or similar paid-for card, that one would be a different story.

oh ditto, I really have no problem letting people scan my Smith's card... I've before had one guy that I let scan my card that had a large enough order that the next time I went to get gas I found out I had a 15cent a gallon discount because of it (sweet)

i like the wegman's cards the best... cos you don't have to have the card in order to use it, just the phone number associated with the card. And it's one you don't pay extra for, so that's no issue.

but seriously... those girls were stupid.

15 cent per gallon? Move to Canada, Canadian Tire has a credit card offering upto 10 cents per litre = 37.8 cents per gallon.

See, I'd give the girls the "clueless" benefit of the doubt, up until you told them you could lose your job and they still said to do it. That's when they firmly leaped into SC territory to me.

You can't let your family use it? ::curious:: The only experience I have is with Wal-Mart's employee discount, which can be used by immediate family members who live with you.

                  .

That's true of pretty much all the cards you don't have to pay for.

I just LOVE how she said, "So, do it anyway!" like losing your job is no big deal.

I may decide to move to canada for other reasons... but the 10cents per litre requires I sign up for a credit card... the 15cents per gallon I got was free.

I'll let my grandmother and EQ use my card, but I HAVE to be with them, because neitherone of them go to Sam's enough to justify needing the card.

I figure it's just 40$ and it tends to pay for itself the first trip anyhow.

I will NOT, however, let a total stranger use my card. I'd never get the damned thing back.

My roommate lets me and DataJager use his Sam's card. Generally, I think it's because he doesn't want to go to Sam's by himself.

RW will be moving in with me come the new year so I'll use his card; but I'll be nice and, when he renews, split the cost with him.

Ironically, it is my ex's Sams Club account, but when it comes to renewing it I will ofcourse take her off of it or get my own membership if I have to.

What a spoiled brat. I'd have told her where to shove it. But then, my CS skills have been waning ever since I had to use them.
