  • Customer Believed Her Item Should've Been Free

Today, my service desk coworker got a customer who was overcharged for chicken and it turned out the deli employee made a mistake. The customer insisted that she should have the item for free since she could've paid the wrong amount and walked out.

Where I work, if an item scans higher than the shelf price, the customer gets the 1st item free and the rest at the shelf price. This policy doesn't apply if it's a human error or the barcodes don't match.

My service desk coworker explained the scan policy. The customer wasn't happy about not getting her chicken free but she ended up paying for it.

It cracks me up when people say they should get something for free because they were honest and pointed out a store's mistake. Any good karma points they might have earned are immediately negated by demanding something for free.

Of course if they were being undercharged they would never point it out
