This woman comes up to my register and is arguing about basically every item's price. I get to the point where I'm just silently ringing up her items and listening to her bitch about the prices. After she paid, she stood there staring at the receipt. She then found what she'd thought was a mistake, but had quickly realized her error. She said "Oh, sorry, my mistake." That's where I screwed up. I said "That's ok, I've messed up before." She took this to mean "I screwed up this order" and DESPITE the fact that she knew she'd been wrong and I'd done everything right in the order, says "Oh, you screwed up here?" It took all I had not to yell at her, but I didn't want to sink to her level. Instead, I calmly said "Not on this order, but on others. Everyone makes mistakes."
It was really the tone she was using during the whole damn transaction, thinking she's so perfect and has never fucked anything up. It's pathetic how she reacted to her OWN screw-up, and maybe I am overreacting. I have never seen this customer since, but I think my reaction to her would look something like:
