  • Woman just will not accept my answer

Dammit just because I'm a cashier does NOT mean I don't know my own freaking store's policies. I work at a thrift store, which means our stuff has good prices. This "woman" brings up a bridal dress (normal price here is 150, which is what this is.) We clearly mark our "new goods" with red stickers (dammit I just gave away where I work to someone like Becks) which means we pay for these items (they are not donated like everything else) and we cannot give discounts on them. She has a 50% coupon and wants to use it on them. Most people, when I explain our policy on this, are calm and either buy it anyways or refuse it. Either way would have been fine. But she had to sit there and bitch about it for 7598347943 minutes, explaining 57893489328409589309 times that the coupon should specify this detail. I refuse still, and she pulls out the "get your manager" card. I say "fine" and call him (At this point, whenever anyone asks for a manager, I stop being polite to them and just hand em off to the guy.) He comes up and explains our policy, which she still argues with him about. He was about to let her go, but then CHANGED HIS MIND! He said he'd call someone in the back and check. Long story short, she gave him the ok and the woman saved 75 bucks. I was pissed at him for doing that, and the smug look on her face was not helping me.
Sorry this was long, I was just so pissed that he caved. And get this: he never caved to someone before! He cost our place 75 bucks because this rude couldn't accept what a retail peon told her, which was our damn policy and I explained to her about 57967976094852860865298620 times. Damn, Ok that ends my rant. Enjoy

That my friends, is why SCs do what they do, a spineless manager caves and they get what they want.

          Scroob - if I've told you once, I've told you 46498432498732157879879432131219878987465410198421 9871327984 times - DON'T EXAGGERATE!

On the other hand... gotta hate supervisors who cave - especially when they go against policy!

Threads like these remind me why I'm not going into management. I'd laugh in her face, tell her tough noogies, pay full price or leave.

Halfhuman, that's pretty good. However, you should have also included the intelligence of the worker/manager, depending on if they caved or held their ground. However, if your goal was to amuse me by that link, mission accomplished.

I am AMAZED that the manager cost the store $75!
I can understand caving for say 10%, or even 20% if the situation was dire...but 50%???? On a new item?
And this is in a store that mainly works to provide charity right?
                Sheesh!
                I no longer fear HELL.
                I work in RETAIL.

Well at least they aren't barred from management positions.
