  • It's not that I have no personality-it's just that you're NOT funny.

So I had some guy come through my lane and like everyone, was stumped by the card reader. I told him, "It looks like you have to hit OK." He looks at me and said, "Is that debatable? What if I don't want to hit OK?" I gave a VERY weak (and weary) smile, handed him his receipt and said have a great night. He said, "Apparently she doesn't think I'm funny." The wife goes, "Apparently not. Apparently she has no personality er, sense of humor." They were speaking to eachother at this point and there was not a single note in their voices to suggest they were joking. Maybe I'm overly sensitive, but that seriously pissed me off. I actually had to step away from the front lanes for a few minutes. Maybe I'm way too touchy, but I found that to be insulting. Hey, it's late at night, I've put up with bullshit all day ling, I'm not going to kiss your ass and laugh loudly at stupid, tired jokes.

I've often, when asked why I'm not laughing at something on TV, answered "Intentionally stupid isn't funny."

But that might make trouble with management. You could always take the customer statement at face value, as if it were a serious question though... "Then I'd have to ask you if you have an alternate form of payment."

I always want to say, "Hey! I tell you what ... let's switch places for a day and see how funny YOU find those amusing anecdotes to be!"

      I doubt they'd last 30 minutes.

I got told that by a group of stupid guys and men who stopped to get gas/beer/ciggs for the opening weekend of fishing season 06.

I didn't find their redneck and oblivious humor funny, not to mentioned that I hadn't eaten in hours, I was swamped, it was too busy to be wasting my time with their idiot humor....and some of the guys felt the need to "Hyuck hyuck she ain't got no sense of huma I guess!"

Once or twice IS funny BUT when you have to deal with people who really ought to know better than to ask stupid questions like that one then it becomes annoying as hell especially when you have to deal with wave after wave of idiots, assholes & SC's.

"Space Mutiny" is by far, one of the BEST episodes ever.

That's not funny, and it's not debatable. He HAS to hit "OK" to complete the transaction, if he doesn't want to hit "OK" then no stuff for him!

I've done that, rather recently. An extremely unfunny customer who apparently thought he was hilarious failed to get a response from tired old me one night.

Customer: Hey, couldn't you tell I was joking?
Me: (deadpan) No, sorry. I don't have a sense of humor.
                  Customer: Really?
                  Me: (nodding silently)

The poor guy got a confused look on his face, spent a few seconds apparently trying to read whether I was making a funny, then left looking depressed. Perhaps it was cruel of me, but damn was it satisfying to beat a mood killer at his own game.

Yes! Space Mutiny (even without the MST treatment) = very funny

Stupid Customers = not funny. Unless their own stupidity is getting them hurt, then it's HILARIOUS!

Exactly. How would he have responded if you'd said, "Oh, well then, you don't get to take this stuff home with you! Hahahaha! Oh my ribs!" I'm sure his sense of humor, er, personality would've been just soooo amused by that. Really.

All too often I end up irking a customer who thinks I have no sense of humor. I always end up telling them that I have to assume that they're being serious because there are so many idiot customers that've said similar things who *were* serious. And when people make stupid little jokes ("it must be free" etc) I don't respond and when asked why not I explain that they're the fourth person that day to say it.

Reminds me of this one teacher I had. He'd try to make some sort of dumb joke, and when no one laughed, he'd try to explain it.

Dumbass couldn't seem to understand that we got it, it just wasn't funny.

I've had people do that. I hate it. More so you've heard the same crap over and over again.
                            For instance:
                            Me: It's ninety-two.

SC: You didn't even ask me if I wanted a big bill...

Me: Well, give me eight more dollars and I will. (insert retail smile) I was trying to play with him about it but his own joke backfired.

                            SC: I was just kidding...

Me: I know, sir. No worries. Have a good night.

SC: Really, I was just poking fun.

I get the hint, move on it was NOT funny.

I was nicer about it but still, having a cold and a long line I was in no mood for crapola like that.

I have definetly gotten that when someone tried to be funny and I just stood there with my usual stony expression. That patronizing "Oh, I guess she doesn't have a sense of humor." Some people can pull off dumb little jokes and make it cute, and some people just can't. I love to laugh, but don't laugh at things that aren't funny. People who laugh at things that aren't funny are usually considered to be mentally ill.
