  • Who was right?

I get an e-mail today from "the world's biggest asshole" telling me I made the floor wrong at the elevator doors.

So we do some research (keep in mind we finished this job in June) and find that we followed the contract documents that we had to a T.

So I write him back telling him all of this.

He calls, screaming about how I'm wrong (mainly because I said "away from" instead of "towards" as I looked at the wrong sheet, but everyone knew what I was talking about).

He wants to see my Quality Control records, because he "KNOWS" we screwed up. I explained to him how that wasn't possible, since if I had screwed up like he's thinking nothing would have fit.

    No matter to this guy.

He asks me to pull out the drawing that I referenced, and tell him what I see. Do I see the floor going into the elevator 3" like he thinks, or sitting on the wall 3"? Well I see it sitting on the wall 3".

He suddenly puts me on hold for 5 minutes. When he comes back he says "Send me your QC reports" and hangs up.

Yes folks, he finally actually looked at something, and noticed that what he was asking for isn't shown anywhere.

It felt delicious. Especially the part where he told me that this is costing him money.

    AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

I have been hearing hair-curling stories about contractors 'round these parts. How could the draftsman be wrong when teh contractors seem to have the market cornered?

It's not just them. It's the Architects and Engineers too.

The drafters spend more time than anyone with the plans, so we tend to know things a little better. But even that's not always the case.
