  • standing up for the airlines

Had a guest say this last night:

SC: Yeah, I was supsta be here around 4 this afternoon but the AIRLINES scewed everything up for me.

My response: No doubt they've had to lay off people even more with the economy being so bad.

He had no more to say.

Welcome to my world. Except that after the airlines screwed up, it then becomes MY fault that they have to wait 45 minutes for another flight.

I love when SC's blame everything on THE AIRLINES. Like every airline in the world is joined together in a big conspiracy to ruin their life.

I found the following on another site:

"Every year at Thanksgiving it's the same thing. "So, you're still with the airlines?" No. I just thought I'd quit one day and work nine-to-five, five days a week in some office! Like this is a hobby or something! And what's with this "the airlines" crap? I work for ONE AIRLINE, not ALL of them! "Well, I am usually with UNITED, but last week Air France called me, and you know the French, I just couldn't say no. Next thing I know, I'm on the Concord to Paris!" And God forbid there's an accident. My mother will get so many calls. "Oh my God, I hope he's okay." That was a Russian Airline. He works for United. "Well, we know he's with THE AIRLINES, so we weren't sure. Are you sure he wasn't on it?"
      No longer a flight atttendant!

Princess Kate, if it makes you feel better with the whole "concerned about flight accidents" thing... when the Trolley Square shooting happened I got calls from all my family and friends from outside of Utah... because there was a shooting in Utah, I obviously must have been affected (I was 10 miles away working at the airport at the time)

Princess Kate, I completely understand. If the word sailor or ship or anything to do with the Navy; is mentioned in the news, i get frantic calls from my MIL to see if my husband is ok. It doesn't matter if it ship is in Guam, Hawaii etc she forgets where we live...
The last time I finally said "NAME...Your son is on boat XXXX. Write it down in big letters and tape it next to your TV so you can reference it when yuo watch the news.
If there was a problem, I would call you.
Now get off the damned phone."

Harsh I know, but this woman is also the same woman who thinks her son intentionally picks stastions so far away from our hometown.
(our hometown is Buffalo NY and there is no ocean anywhere near there for us to be stationed)

On 9/11 I worked in Philadelphia and was inundated by calls from loved ones despirately begging me not to go to work because "it might be next..."

I started work at midnight, folks. 9/12, technically...

Not that I don't appreciate the concern for my wellbeing, but even that day my thought was if something were to happen, it would have happened before ten at night, ya?

(BTW, is it bad that I wrote 'bombarded' instead of 'inundated' in my first draft? I'm just a thoughtless guttersnipe)

My clients know better than to call me if they do something stupid if I've got them trained properly, but some of the newbies still try it.

Of course it is the airlines fault when the client is drinking in the airport bar in the wrong terminal and the airline didn't send someone to hunt around the airport to find him and/or hold the plane until they decided to show up and board.

Well, sometimes that's MY fault too.

Course, I don't let them get away with blaming me for that shit, but they try!

I got the same thing from some online friends when the Va. Tech shootings happened. Never mind Blacksburg (where VT is located) is in the southwestern part of the state, about five hours away from Northern Virginia where I live.

                    "OMG, Jay, are you okay?"
                    " ?? "
                    "The shootings."

                    "Oh."
