That looks like a big number... and it is... it's a new record for me. That is how much we collected in no-show charges tonight
Yup, we were sold out... and 27 rooms never showed. We oversold 3 rooms, so really 3 rooms got paid for twice. This one nights no-shows alone will guarantee me employment for the rest of the month... easily.
I will sleep well this afternoon

actually... the weather cleared over Utah early in the afternoon. By the time I went in to work all the major, and some not so major streets had been plowed and salted... so I don't know why we had so many people not show up (granted... I have no idea what the weather is like in other parts of the country that they'd be coming from)

But who cares why they didn't come, less SCs and more money

For my own sake of curiosity, are you the only one willing to charge for No Shows? I ask, because this alone may be a good argument to get you to stay on overnights. Not to mention add a dose of the 'ol job security. In this market, that's not a bad thing at all.
A lion however, will only devour your corpse, whereas an SC is not sated until they have destroyed your soul. (Quote per infinitemonkies)

Bainsidhe, I know that Azen also charges no shows... but I don't think the day and evening shift people are willing to... and it is kind of hard to find people who understand the justifications to no-show charges well enough to feel comfortable charging it.

Really? Have you tried explaining to them that not charging no show fees will result in them not getting a paycheck? I found that explanation worked wonders with some of our... intellectually-challenged front desk staff. Not that I trust these people to tie their own shoe laces without help. And I do have some justification for that point of view.

For example the one guy booked a walk-in with a rate of $0.00 and then checked them out early the next with $0.00 in charges. He didn't mention it to anyone, just let it go until it got caught in the next night audit. He said he was confused (because he had changed the rate from rack) and didn't know how to fix it. But he didn't ask for help or explain to anyone that he had a problem, either. Did I mention that he WAS a night auditor?

I for the future of our inn, sometimes.

Day shifts tend not to charge No-Shows because the end of day is generally 2am. So Day shift has no reason to charge no-shows.

Gee Garrison, your one guy sounds like the last Idiot I was training at my old hotel. Suffice to say, he wasn't with the company for very long.

first off... thank you for backing me up that it's supposed to be at 2am

second... I didn't say they didn't charge it, I said that they wouldn't be willing to.
