  • They ain't making them any smarter

In another thread, I mentioned these Lane recliners we got in and I was wondering how the hell we'd ever sell them, because they are ridiculously expensive.

Well wouldn't you know it, we sold three of them this weekend!

Actually, we sold the same one three times.

Actually, it came back three times because each time the customer said it was the wrong color and sent it back, and I don't think all three of them were able to get it in the right color.

So Yours Truly, in addition to his normal furniture-herding duties, was asked to figure out why the same recliner got carried out and returned three times this weekend.

I checked the SKUs written on the boxes, since the truck unloaders like to write the wrong skus on boxes frequently. There wasn't a problem there. The truck unloaders weren't even the ones who put the recliners away.

Next I checked the signing for the recliners, which has swatches of the upholstery on it because not all the recliners are on display. The leather swatch on the sign matched the leather on the recliner very closely, so that wasn't the issue.

I checked to make sure the pull tags were in the correct pockets, and they were.

So the only explanation to me is that three customers managed to grab the wrong pull tags this weekend, even though they are right next to the fabric swatches on the sign, so thus you kind of have to try to grab the wrong tag.

It isn't too often that customers grab the wrong pull tags, but three times in two days? There's a hole with no bottom.

Sounds like you got some of my customers. I apologize... Just couldn't take them anymore.

Might be MY customers. Some SWEAR that we gave them the wrong color when in fact, most of our furniture only comes in one color. We have bright orange floors and tons of lighting so I can see how that might affect someone's decision, but you can't mistake red for black. RED red for black. After arguing with customers that its not possible we sold them the wrong color, they often ask for another associate since 'I don't know what I'm doing'.

What makes me feel better is that I've been there the longest and most everyone else is part time, so when they come to ask me a question with the customer, they come to me and then the customer makes the comment of 'I just talked to her, never mind then! You're all stupid'. Kinda makes me smile

If most hadn't actually gotten the right color, I'd almost suspect this was a case of someone seeing Shiny Chair, buying Shiny Chair, delivering it, and spouse seeing Shiny Bill and throwing a Shiny Hissyfit.

Probably at least some of them DID get the color they initially selected, but when they got it in their house, or saw the finished product in all it's chairy glory, they decided it wasn't the right color, and maybe the blue would work better after all.

The others? I dunno... probably just saw Shiny Chair, grunted 'Ungh... CHAIR!' and made a lurching swipe towards the closest pulltab to have 'Chair' written on it.
