My wife had one of the best stories I've heard in a long time. The other day, she was getting the week's worth of groceries at Publix. One of her stops is the deli to get lunch meat for the kids. Everyone took a number, including the 70 some old woman two persons behind my wife. In front of my wife, this younger woman ordered a pound of bologna. While the deli employee was cutting the meat for this woman, the older woman piped up and said, "Oh, I was going to get some of that. Would you mind cutting up six slices of that for me?" The deli employee told her sure, that was not a problem being she already had the bologna out. Afterward, when the employee wrapped up the bologna and priced it for both customers, the older woman with the six slices of bologna says, "Thanks, and I also need a half pound of swiss cheese." The deli employee told her she was sorry, but she was not the next person in line and would have to wait her turn. "But, you already got my bologna for me, so you need to also slice my cheese for me." The employee told her, "I'm sorry, maam, but you are not the next person in line and will have to wait your turn." This woman got upset and said, "Well, this is unfair. Everyone else back there lets me do that." She then turned on her heel and left, leaving the six slices of bologna on the deli counter.
What pisses off anyone in this story is number one, the woman was trying to cut in line, no matter what order in the line she was in. And secondly, she wasted a few slices of bologna that she probably never intended to buy anyway (turned out later, someone said she always says things like, "Oh, I changed my mind") What gets me is why they don't turn this woman away for that. Food is being wasted and most likely it has to be thrown away.
Businesses should turn away these customers to the competition. Let the competition be the ones who lose the money and go under.
