And it was a Monday to boot.
Right off the bat I know I am going to spend roughly 3 hours on the road since I ned to hit some locations that aren't close.
On my way there I had 6 calls from the same number - no voicemail so I didn't bother to call them back (I almost never answer the phone when I'm driving). I guess it was important enough to annoy the hell out of me with my phone ringing every 2 minutes but not important enough to leave a message.
I get to the location and start taking care of their issues.
"Which computer isn't working?"
(Points to the other side of the store) "That one"
"There are 5 computers at the desk"
(annoyed sigh) "The one I'm pointing to"
"I can't see where you're pointing to"
"THE ONE ON THE END"
Now, was that difficult? I'd hate to be your dentist.
The, I get an email:
One person wanted to log a ticket so I could move a monitor for them. Um, I'm IT, not a moving company. Move it your damn self, if it is to big then get someone to help you. They were kind enough to CC my boss on the email so i replied back:
"I cannot move monitors and other equipment around for people nor am I near the office at this time (I was over a 90 minute drive away). If you need help moving it, contact one of your supervisors (they're never in the office but I baited it anyway)."
Next email -
"Hi Draggar, can I bring my laptop in on Wed so you can look at it?"
"Sorry, but I am starting my vacation on Wed".
"Oh, OK. Can I bring it on Thurs?"
Um, if I'm starting a vacation on WED,, why the HELL do you think I'll be back in on Thursday? I didn't say a day off or a personal day, I said a VACATION. I guess IT isn't allowed to take multiple and consecutive days off.
Rinse and repeat that with two more people.
On my way to the next location - I get 12 calls (yes, TWELVE) from the same number, again, no voicemail. I guess people are just assholes.
I get to the next location - I check my email. A sales manager is mad at me because I didn't answer his call (and he cc'd my boss) when he was calling me. The air conditioning is out and they need me to fix it ASAP.
My boss' response is priceless:
"Draggar is offline right now so I'm willing to bet he is out in the field and doesn't have access to emails. Also, we are IT, we do not fix air conditioning. I advise you to get into contact with building management about that."
She may not be a tech but she does support her team.
Another email, all caps MY MONITOR ISN"T WORKING AND I CAN"T SEE WELL WITH THE LAPTOP SCREEN!!!!!111
My reply:
"Hit Fn-F8 on the laptop's keyboard to cycle though the different options and then give it a minute to sync."
Their response?
"I figured that out a while ago!"
Then why didn't you TELL ME????
When I get home (not much time left so I did the rest of my work home) - a supervisor emails me demanding that I move and install everyone's laptop, monitor and other equipment (keyboards, mice, etc..) on the new floor.
My response, which is almost verbatim from a communication that came out last week regarding the move - "the users are responsible for moving their own equipment - not IT". Sure, I don't have anything better to do than to move everyone's laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, stuffed kittens, and their personal pictures, one at a time, while they all demand I do theirs first.
Yeah, it was a bad day. Of course, I'm still alive and (relatively) healthy, no accidents, no tickers so it could be worse. Just a pain in the @$$ day for me. It's sad, I feel myself turning into "that asshole tech" because of the people I deal with.
