  • Why am I still a manager?

I have been off work for the past week and a half, and my first shift back starts in just over an hour. I have been informed by a co-worker that ALL of my shifts this week are manager shifts.

I asked my boss weeks ago if I could step down. I just no longer have the will or the energy to be the manager. In a months time, I am either going to be leaving the pub completely, or cutting my hours down to one of two shifts a week. I just want to go to the pub, make drinks, smile, be polite and then go home.

I am actually dreading work tonight. I feel sick at the thought of being in charge. I just don't care. I seriously worry for the next customer that yells "I WANT TO SPEAK TO THE MANAGER!!" because, as bad as it sounds, I just do not care about them.

Ugh, please Boss, I understand that having an extra manager takes a load off your plate, but seriously, keeping me as a manager will probably do the business a lot of harm.

Not to mention yourself. I don't know your financial situation, but if it's so emotionally draining that it's affecting your physically, then you should get out now. Much as we love your no-BS attitude and stories, we'd rather hear "fond" memories of old stories than you having a nervous breakdown. ~hugs~
A lion however, will only devour your corpse, whereas an SC is not sated until they have destroyed your soul. (Quote per infinitemonkies)

If you're having that sort of physical reaction going to work, then quit. Doesn't matter what the financial situation is, you're going to eventually lose it completely.

I've done that before. It sucks. Being physically ill at the thought of going into work that you're puking every day before work, and when I did drag myself in, I was pretty much just a zombie.

I'm so glad I quit that job. Only wish I had done so sooner.

I quit sleeping. I stay up later and later, because once I fall asleep, the next thing is the alarm going off and getting ready for work. One boss was so bad, I ended up on disability because I was only sleeping two or three hours a night. I never went back.
