  • If I didn't hate this place before, I sure do now.

Where to begin...at Meijer, their scheduling system is so fucked up that they only put it out to you a week at a time, and then they change it on you. They have one printed in the store that we're supposed to rely on, but we can check an online version if we so wish. I had the schedule printed out for this week and checked it against the posted version in the store to make sure it was right. Then they took the schedule down and put up next weeks, so I only saw it one day that it was up. Anyway, I drag myself out of bed this morning, red and seepy eyed, after going to bed early (for me) in order to do so. Drive 20 minutes. Walk in, punch in, and it says "Too early-see manager." Red flags go up. What the hell. This is not good. A co-worker gets the manager on duty on the phone and she's like, "Well, tell her we have the right to change the schedule...." Turns out I'm supposed to be in at four in the afternoon.

When the FUCK was this changed? I had the printed schedule and checked it against the in store schedule. I only had a chance to look at it once before they took it down and posted the next week's schedule. I suppose I might have only checked some of the days and overlooked the saturday, since the rest of the schedule matched up. It's confusing, but what it comes down to is this: they changed the schedule at the very last minute, fucking me over. Now I get to sit around and then drive back over there later. I was so pissed when I was leaving the parking lot, I was waiting for traffic to clear so I could turn and the guy behind me honks the horn at me. Fucker. Then the car I was WAITING FOR turns. He made me wait and didn't even have his goddamn blinker on. So basically, both guys were being asswads. I gave him an angry gesture (for the first time in my life). Not the finger, but one of my own invention.

Oh guess what? I also got written up yesterday for the first time. Why? Because I was a whopping TWO MINUTES late punching back from break. Why? Because the wall clock in the break room was previously a good four minutes ahead, so I got to the clock and had to stand and wait. So NEXT time, I waited until the clock was a couple minutes ahead before going on to punch out. Well, low and behold, somebody had changed the clock to the proper time, leaving me two minutes late. What kind of place makes you punch in/out for BREAKS? And then sits and reviews all of your punches to make sure they're to the very minute? What a joke. Also, I'd lke to know what exactly this union is DOING for me. I mean, isn't it basically like paying at the door every time I walk in to work? What have they done for us? We're making minimum wage...we're treated like shit, obviously...yeah, they're doing a lot for us.

Then tonight while working I was finished with health and beauty care and was helping my co-workers in pets, which is in the oppoiste corner of the store-a VERY long walk. A get a call from the manager on duty, an older lady. "The tampon wall needs to be done. I don't know if you did it before, but it needs work." So I hike over there and get it straightened. Then I return to pets. A few minutes later I get another call from her. "The adult diapers need some work." Seriously annoyed now, I head all the way back over and get them looking perfect. Return to pets once again. Minutes later, the goddamn phone rings again. "You need to do the tampon aisle again." WHAT THE FUCK, woman? Are you batshit crazy?? So while I'm over there "perfecting" the tampons, she comes by with a cart of stuff and goes, "I found all of this hidden on the base decks. You need to be more critical when you're going through the makeup." Unbelievable. I've never seen her as insanely picky as she was tonight. God, I need a job where I don't pick up after lazy asshole slobs. The other day I spent several minutes hanging up all of the hairbrushes that had been thrown on the basedeck. Then I move to the next aisle, and I hear a woman throwing hairbrushes on the basedeck once again. ARRRRRRRGH.

Also, today they needed backup on a lane. So the kid working out in garden center went up front to cashier and I was told to watch graden center while he's gone. I stood out there for a half hour in the cold, pouring rain with nothing to do (I've never been showed how to do anything over there). Then when a customer came up to check out, I realized that the register was not going to let me sign in. It needed a thumb print, something which they neglected to set me up with. So then I had to call someone over.

To topt hings off on the list of annoyances, they have two possible days to attend an hour long mandatory meeting. Guess what days they are? The days I have off, of course. So now I get to drive all the way over there on my day off for a stupid hour long meeting which no doubt, will be utterly pointless nonsense.

Check the labor laws for your area.

    A) I dunno about your state, but out here if management makes any schedule change with less 1 weeks notice, they are legally required to contact each employee affected and let them know. It is only the employees responsibility to check the schedule if it is posted in written form at least 1 week in advance.

    B) Punching out for breaks is pretty standard. Sucky yes, but common. Also, it is your responsibility to not exceed your break time,. regardless of the functionality of the clock, though I fully agreethat writing you up for being 2 minutes late was really excessive, unless its a recurring problem. In fact, I think you should take to your union rep about it, which brings us to..

    C) You have a union job, you pay union dues, but only earn minimum wage? And the store pulls that schedule/break crap with union staff? Sounds to me like your local <union # whatever> desparately needs to grow some teeth, and probably at least take a job action.
