  • Visitor Parking is reserved & it is a zoo

There were only 10 non-reserved spots available, & they were full by 9 a.m.

    Time to vent.

So I put the big white sign stating Visitor Parking is reserved for an event outside to block the entrance to the garage, but since it was windy outside, that sign fell down several times.

    Then the fun began.
    • Several staff members were frustrated because they could not find any parking spots in the faculty/staff garage, & there were no spots in Visitor Parking available for them since it was reserved.
    • One staff member was visibly upset & frustrated when she saw that sign.
    • Another staff member told me the university president would be upset if she could not park since she works in the Provost office. That office is on the same floor as the President's office. So I call the parking office to inform them of what she said. I was told no, she cannot park. So I tell her the bad news. She is pissed, & she backs up to find parking somewhere else.
    • Another staff member asks me if she could park in one of the President's spots even though she does not work in that office. I told her she has to ask him about that.
    • Lastly, a student told me the parking office oversells the parking permits (& I would assume that office oversells the parking permits for the faculty/staff members as well). There are not enough parking lots, but the parking office still keeps on selling the parking permits. She could not park since according to the parking office, students are not allowed to park when the garage is reserved.

I try my best to be understanding & fair, but I cannot always be "the good parking attendant & let everyone park everytime". I wish there were enough parking spots for everyone needing to park everytime they need to park, but there are not. I cannot make parking spots appear out of the blue. I hear there is a faculty/senate meeting today. I wonder what was discussed at the meeting.
