So it's my first week in my new area at work.....I have to say, I'm a little lost.
New area: Supervisors always know what's going on, and are in the production area constantly.....and they actually know how the machines work and how to run them themselves! Sometimes they even cover for operators' breaks! And shift leads are also responsible for running machines as well to keep product moving.....organized and able to run the area and answer questions, but depended on to help with production and covering breaks as well.
Old area: Supervisors had never run the machines before, or if they did, they "forgot"....rarely if ever seen, always sitting in their office, relying on word of mouth from shift leads about what was going on. Shift leads were too good to help get product out, instead just focused on helping operators (or, if we're talking about my shift, they'd all just hide or wander the halls all night and force the lead with the least experience to run the whole room).
New area: Work is getting done, employees are able to make work fun and have a good time and chat a bit, but are still expected to work. The same amount of work is expected from EVERYONE. Everyone is expected to come to work and do their own fair share.
Old area: Work only got done by the hardest working employees, and that was only because they were always threatened within inches of their jobs if they didn't get quota (and making up for others who don't work). Hard workers were expected to come in and do over quota, others were expected to try, and do-nothings were only expected to show up to work and breathe.
Ya know, all in all, I really enjoy having a boss who goes by the book and treats EVERYONE the same. Sometimes the tougher the boss, the better the work area!
