Thank you note advice

My husband and I live north of Chicago, and both of our families live east of Cleveland, about a 7hr drive away.

We're driving in for Xmas and my mother-in-law is hosting a baby shower for us while we're in.

Now, I'm not due for 3 months, but we figured that it'd be harder to travel that far closer to my due date.

So my question that I'm posing to all of you is: When should I send out Thank You notes for the baby shower gifts: after the shower or after the birth/with birth announcements?

I have exactly 0 experience with baby showers, but going with my own gut instinct, I'd say send the thank-you notes out after the shower. Waiting 3 months might give people the impression that you forgot them or aren't going to send out thank-you notes.

After the shower. That means there will less to do after the baby, and trust me, less to do is a good thing!
