  • "I gave away my token to someone else"

This particular female student could either be scamming or she could be dumb.

This is the first time this has happened to me at the university I work at as a contract Visitor parking attendant since March 2006.

Today is the first day of of the spring semester. The student surface lots are open for free the first 2 weeks of school. Visitor parking is not free. It is $5.00.

The female student drove up to the booth window & showed be some paperwork and an access card. That access card & paperwork is probably for the student parking garage at the college of business. I told her if she could not park at that garage she could park at one of the student lots for free for the first couple of weeks. She asks me where the student lots are. I showed her where they were on the map that I had inside the booth. She chose to park in Visitor parking. So I informed her of the $5.00 parking fee & where to purchase her token to exit: either at the vending machine or at the parking office on the third floor *this information is important to remember*. She parks in Visitor parking.

Several hours later a caterer arrives, & I tell him he can park along the wall inside the Visitor parking garage since that area can be used as an unloading zone for food & supplies. I raise the gate for him to enter the garage, & I go inside the garage to show him where to park.

As I was walking back to the booth, I notice someone trying to use an access card to exit Visitor parking. I notice the person using that card was the female customer I dealt with earlier today. She asks me how is she supposed to exit the garage. I told her she has to get a token to exit. She told me "I bought one, but they told me I did not need one & so I gave it away to someone else." I asked her "who told you that?" She said "the cashier office." You purchase your parking permit at the Parking office. The cashier office has nothing to do with your parking permit.

So I walk back to the booth & call the parking office. "Nancy" answers the phone, & I tell her exactly why I am calling. She tells me the female customer has to buy a token to exit. So I go back to the exit gate, & I tell her what the Parking office told me. She is not happy, & she tries to convince me to let her out for free. Eventually she realizes that I cannot do that, & she goes to the Parking office. She exits several minutes later.

I'm thinking she's both a scammer and an idiot. She didn't believe you when you explained her parking pass was only for the other garage. She figured she could use her pass when exiting and then came up with a bull story when caught in the falsehood.
