  • What's this "sleep" thing of which you speak?

It is really going to suck to be me, starting later this week.

One of the stock/truck people is leaving to take a job in Tennessee later this month. He will not be replaced, at least for a while, because hours are just too tight.

So instead the remaining stock people are going to be unloading trucks and beginning to stock them, and then coming in early the next morning to finish them up. This means working until 7 or 8 at night and coming back in at 5 the next morning.

I just can't sleep well when I have these kinds of shifts back to back. Not unless I down a bunch of alcohol and just pass out.

And this is probably going to be twice a week until further notice.

I guess I really shouldn't complain too much. This way I will get my 40 hours a week.

Over here (UK) I believe there's a minimum time between a shifts (if you're expected to sleep). Given that, allowing half hour to and from work, you're probably not going to be physically able to get your 8 hours is it worth checking with your local labour authority?

AFAIK, they only have to give me eight hours in between shifts, so they're probably covered.

Just checked for here and, to quote "the minimum rest period in a 24-hour period should not be less than eleven consecutive hours" source Which is longer than I thought
May be worth finding out for certain

Lets also hope they break you over 40 hours too (lets hear it for overtime!)

            Are you nuts?!

              You want overtime?

I feel your pain. At least once a week I do a swing shift followed by a day shift. It's double sucky for me because in between the two I have a paper route to do as well. And Boss Man wonders why I'm dead during the day shift...
