  • We have to be setting a record here

We got a new cleaning guy not too long ago.

This morning, cleaning guy opened up the pharmacy door. After we had armed the store. When cleaning guy is not supposed to be opening entrance doors because that sets off the alarms and the alarm company calls the cops.

Who then fine us for having to respond to a false alarm. Each time they have to come over the fine goes up. This latest fine was $144. Next time (and there will be a next time) it will be $150. But that isn't the big deal here, since store manager just calls up the cleaning contractor and makes them reimburse him the amount of the fine. The big deal is that the cleaning people could be stealing things. Or they could be letting people into the store that aren't supposed to be in the store. People who may have guns or other weapons and be meaning to rob us.

We always tell the cleaning people they are not to open any doors while the store is armed, and they always tell us they understand it. Or at least fake it.

One other grip: These people are supposed to be wearing name badges so we know they're supposed to be in the store. They aren't even doing that. So again somebody could come to the door, claim to be on the cleaning crew, and be let in and rob the store or steal or do God knows what else.

Frankly, if I were SM, I'd be telling corporate I want nothing more to do with this cleaning company of ours.

Wasn't it you who posted about your last cleaning company and the worker with a serious chip on his shoulder?

Yeesh, your company seems to be hiring the dregs of cleaning companies!

Couple other things to make you go "hmmmm..."
      • Cleaning guy uses bleach to clean the restrooms. He dumps it on the toilets and the urinals and on the floor. He uses a lot of bleach.

We asked him where he was getting all this bleach from. "I take it off the shelf. They (the people training him) told me I could. Okay, so are you requisitioning it? "Yeah, yeah."

Next we called up the service desk and asked them to check the requisition log for entries for the bleach cleaning guy is taking off our shelves. They couldn't find any note of any bleach being requisitioned for cleaning. That means all the bottles of bleach he's taken will count against our store as shrink.

Being nosy, I ducked into the maintenance room and took a look at his maintenance cart. There I found a bottle of toilet bowl cleaner that appeared to have come off our shelf.
      • This morning, I noticed cleaning guy lingering in the electronics department longer than he ever should, not cleaning anything.
      • A couple weeks ago, we had some different cleaning people in the store to take care of a bunch of issues store manager rose with the cleaning contractor. One morning, a couple hispanic ladies showed up at the entrance at about 5:30, well after we had turned the alarms back on. (I should not all our cleaning people are hispanic and have been for quite some time)

One of the morning people was flagged down to let them in and came to the door after turning off the alarms. He asked the hispanic ladies what they were at the door for. "Work. Work."

So he assumed they were there to help clean and let them in. They just stood around by the cart corral for a while. For some reason, they were both carrying large-ish purses.

Morning guy asked them if they had any plans to do any actual work. So they went over by the maintenance room and stayed there for a while, then came back out by the cart corral to stand around some more.

Finally morning guy kicked them out, and a note of the ladies' presence and behavior was made with LP.
