  • A suggestion for a rule

I read in the site rules about people using the "It's not in the rules" defense. IMHO, this could be easily countered by amending the TOS thusly:

"Staff reserves the right to take action for any offense that may not be covered by these rules."

    Just an idea

Hm, maybe. Though that almost give a moderator free reign to do whatever the heck they want. Not really of course because the mods on here are awesome and if one got out of line, well they'd be taken care of I'm sure. It's an idea though I would probably word it a little differently.

Anyway I second the suggestion. Y'all shouldn't have to get soooo specific with the rules in the first place. Then again we are on the internet and so being specific has become a necessity....

yeah. I don't get it. I mean, I dont have a clean record. I got a few infractions. But even then, back in the day, I don't recall us ever having problems. I do remember one memember though, who would just say stupid random shit, and was proud about how much beer he was drinking all the time. Mr. Slugger then just banned him. I remember stating wow, I never seen a new member get banned so fast.

What happened? I mean, I love alot of people here, but there is alot of people who use to post and don't anymore.

I then look at my enrollment date. I'm one of the oldest memembers here, (not the oldest, but decently high). Yet so little posts. I suck.

I've got a couple of weeks off, so I'm going to be revamping the rules somewhat - or at least that's the intention.

        Specific points:

        Dendawg, worth considering.

SG15Z, most of the rules we have are specific because people did just what they say not to do.

Plaidman, generally speaking when someone is banned so fast it's because of posts that were deleted so fast that it would make your head spin. Members do drop off every so often. It's regrettable, and there are people I've never met personally whom I'd like to see back on the board. However, it's a fact of Internet life. A shitty one, but it's true.

I would ask why certain members are banned, but I won't.
Although if you want to make the rule interesting, how about "Raps, Ree and the other mods are the gods on this forum. Do not anger the gods and they will not anger you."

Yes, that quote is stolen partially from Jester's sig.

I don't even know how to *find out* whether I have any infractions or not.
Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.

On the top right of the screen, where it says welcome HYHBT, your last visit blah blah. Click it. There be a tab between contact info and friends ontop where one can put visitor messages. CLick on that to see them. If you don't know if you have any, then you likely don't as the mods tend to send you a message detailing why you got one.

                Ah. Thanks!

(and I'm going to assume the lack of a tab there is a good sign as well)

I, for one, would think Dendawg's statement would need to be changed and made very specific. Mostly, this is due to what SG-15Z said. Not to think that our Mods would abuse power, but it would give carte blanche for handing out infractions. Fireheart, what if a member is an athiest?

Since this is a privately owned forum the right of the owner and staff to take action exists implicitly, but I agree it can't hurt to put a sign to that effect. How about something like:

"The owner and staff of this establishment reserve the right to refuse service."

Don't worry. Anyone who receives and infraction is always informed of it. If you aren't aware of any, you certainly don't have any.

But we've always had carte blanche to hand out infractions and ban people.

If we didn't, this place would be overrun with spam, flamefests and other nonsense.

Dendawg's suggestion asks us to remind members of an existing fact, not something new. It's not a terrible idea.

I understand, but you also don't hand out infractions just for the hell of it. Each one has a specific reason. The wording, in my opinion, makes it so that you can just infract someone because you don't like them.
