  • Whoopsy!

I opened today, and one of the cash office guys was in our office, bitching up a storm about how screwed up cash was from the night before. I asked him how bad, and he started rattling off tons of stuff, a couple of things which could get people fired. Yeah, that bad. There's probably going to be a handful of writeups handed out to a couple of cashiers and at least one frontend supervisor.

The icing on the cake though... one of the dept managers left several hundred dollars of store cash sitting on the desk instead of dropping it in the safe (it was in a bank bag). Technically she's above him, but he's the one who reports cash handling to corporate, and he was trying to figure out how to handle it.

Later in the day I asked him about it - he said the look on her face and the "omfg omfg omfg omfg" coming out of her mouth was probably punishment enough for her when he told her. Anybody else that works cash up probably would have involved corporate - instead I think she's just going to get a written warning from the store manager.

Now leaving cash out is very bad - but it was in an office with 2 locks (1 combination, 1 keyed), and the only person who can unlock it in the morning is the store manager (closing manager locks it after all the paperwork/counting are done).

In other news, I rang $13,100 in 6 1/2 hours today... crazy busy at the Whole. I would have done a lot more except I had some overtime a couple of days ago and got sent home early today to negate it.
