  • Woman sues Google over directions...

Because while walking on-foot she was hit by a car!

Umm...so I can sue the girl that sold me my morning coffee because her directions to the post office caused me to get lost and I ran into a fence or something? Riiiight.

i was in Second Life yesterday, listening to a Memorial Day edition of the "Fubar show" and they were talking about this and summed it up pretty well

as in "how stupid can you be?" and "didn't we all learn as children to look both ways before crossing the road?"

Wasn't there a map site where at one time you could ask how to get from somewhere in North America to Europe and the directions would include "swim across the ocean?" I guess they removed it out of fear someone would actually try it...

I can see the logic. Except for the fact that Google is very clear that the route is a suggestion only. (The only difference between the car and the walking ones is you're allowed to go either way on a one-way street. It completely ignores all footpaths).

I highly suspect there are other stories about that woman on this site somewhere, she just screams "SC" to me.

the one thing that makes stop and pause is the thing about cellphones and PDAs not seeing the warning.... are they suggesting she used a cellphone? or that that is a good reason to sue?

So why didn't she take a look at street view. I do since any online map can have issues. Then at least I have an idea of what the area looks like should I need to take a detour.
Of course I consider personal responsibility something I should handle..since you know it's me therefore I am my own problem. That's just not normal thinking anymore.

She has eyes, right? I walk on roads with no sidewalks and on busy highways. You keep off to the side.

Why isn't she going after the person that HIT her?

Is this the same woman who fell into a pot hole while walking and texting on her phone?

                        She is:
She is also suing the driver who struck her, Patrick Harwood of Park City.
She might have a case against the guy who hit her (depending on the exact circumstances of the accident), but the case against Google should be thrown out.

Wasn't there a story about a guy trying to sue his GPS company because they gave him directions to drive onto a snowed out road and he got stuck?

People need to take responsibility for their own actions.

This sounds about as dumb as suing McDonalds coz you got fat eating their food.
