  • So much insanity, so little time

I really had a morning today. Posting in GWC since it covers a bit of everything. Some SC's, some sightings, lots of cops. So, while waiting for Hubby to awaken so I can cook him delicious breakfast (and then sleep myself), I will let it all out here.

    Block party much?

It all started when I came across shards of glass ALL over the roadway. I mean, I've seen a lot of glass on the roads before, but nothing like this. The whole block, all the way across the road, was covered. Unfortunately, this was the only route to one of my customers...there's no way around it. Fortunately, I have free replacement on all my tires for just this sort of thing, but still...it's a hassle if I have to change a flat.

    Drunk chicken

Literally, as I'm driving back over the glass, I see a guy up ahead coming straight at me. At first, I think he's trying to play chicken. Then, I notice he's kinda swervy, and realize he's just drunk. Fortunately, I get over onto the shoulder and live to die another day. Hopefully that glass popped a couple of his tires...clearly he doesn't need to be driving.

    On picking up your newspapers

One customer has me confused. Here's what's on his porch right now: Wednesday's paper, Friday's paper, and now Saturday's paper. Meaning, he picked up Thursday's, but left Wednesday's. Also, lights were on today that weren't on yesterday, indicating a high probability someone is home...someone who can't be arsed to open their door and walk a couple feet to get their papers.

Another customer always does this, and it befuddles me. He's a weekend customer, so he gets his papers delivered just on Saturday and Sunday. I swear, every week, they sit in there until Saturday morning, when they have conveniently disappeared for me to deliver this weekend's papers...where they will likely sit until next weekend. I mean...after a week, it's not news anymore. I get paid, so I guess it doesn't really matter what they do with their papers, but still. It's annoying.

    WTH did I miss?

So, my second route causes me to loop back to the same blocks quite a bit. As I'm doubling-back on the main road, I come across a very noticeable, smokey haze, and a police officer. Mind you, there are never cops in this neighborhood unless something is happening. I had just been on this same block no more than 15 minutes earlier, and there'd been no smoke, so I'm wondering what happened?

About 10 more minutes later, I'm back again to this same block, and see the officer out patrolling on foot.

For the rest of my route, the neighborhood is crawling with cops. I see several vandalized mailboxes, including some belonging to my customers. Not sure if it's related to the smoke.

Fortunately, the cops ignored me and left me alone. (Sometimes, there's a new guy who doesn't know what I'm doing, and I'll have him following me for several blocks until he figures out I'm just a paper carrier. )

    Bonus: Hubby's schedule suck

    Here's poor Hubby's schedule...it started yesterday:

    11:45a-5:00p

    8:00p-2:00a

    8:00a-11:00a

Granted, it could be worse, but still. Not incredibly fun.

I'm not sure what the laws are here. I know he volunteered for the middle shift, though I'm don't think he knew it would run so long. I'll have to look it up later (not that his manager would even care).
