  • How (not) to hire an artist

    http://kaitol.com/how-to-hire-an-artist/

I kind of hope this is a joke, but it looks awfully serious to me.

I also hope this gets spread around so much that he can never hire an artist again, if it's real.

Artists have the responsibility to know what the monetary value of their work is in whatever field they work in. If somebody isn't paying what you think you deserve or giving you enough exposure, then don't do it.

Pft, I'd never start a commission without being paid first.

I've gotten commissions, and I wouldn't expect anyone else to start without being paid, either.

that was my only problem with the article he didnt mention a down payment or anything. If i dont have some kind of financial reason to truly devote time to something like that why would i finish if my payment is so conditional? i think the artest is just as likely to walk out with the art if you haven't paid anything for it up front. the half now half latter method is best.

but he has a point on some of that stuff.

if you quote less than he expected to pay and hires you at the price well whats the problem in that.
