  • annoying chick at the movies

So the BF, me and a couple of our friends went to watch The Expendables tonight (eh..not too horrible like we though..gotta love mindless action ) and about halfway in this teenage girl decides to check her phone for texts. She responds and puts it away. Ok..fine..once I can deal with. yyyeaahh....if that were the case I wouldn't be posting now would I?

SHE NOW DOES IT EVERY FIVE MINUTES!!!! Her phone was so bright it was pissing us all off and distracting us from the movie. So after the 3rd or 4th time she "needed" to check her messages I politely leaned over and asked her to stop. She just rolled her eyes at me and said something to her date and they both laughed. She is fine for a bit but then aparently can't handle the pressure of not looking at her phone and starts up again. Cue another (final) warning and another set of eye rolls and more texting. Alrighty then. Awesome!

So the bf and I look at each other and just quietly both put our feet up on either side of her chair (and her head) and wait. She flips around and smacks our feet (which we just put back up) and tells us to Fuck off! and why don't we learn some manners? We take our feet down and I whisper "Yea, it's really annoying when people are rude in theatres, isn't it?" and go back to the movie. She gets up and moves a few rows back.

The couple next to me thought it was hilarious and shared their reese's pieces! YUM!

I don't know how people are so glued to their phones? After the show was done we ended up following her and her date out of the theatre. Poor guy kept trying to talk to her and she would give him the "One minute!" finger and text away. Hope he doesn't stick around for a second date....

A friend of mine did that recently. We went to a movie, and he kept checking his damned email and responding to it. I kept putting my hand over the screen. Eventually, he put the stupid phone away. I had to tell him some of the things he had missed in the movie when he was answering his oh-so-important emails.

Best I have seen was from my current girl. Us with a friend o hers went to a movie, group of teens in front of us was being jerk wads the entire time so her friend got up and sat right next to them... staring at them for about 5 min, unblinking.... they left and looked a little scared.

I usually keep my phone turned off when I am at the movies...If I do check its only once or twice. I NEVER answer calls or texts during the film. I pay to watch the film. Not look at texts or answer back. Those can wait until after the movie is done.

I'll keep mine on silent/vibrate for the previews and after that I leave it. On the other hand, my boyfriend and I will sit as far back as possible.

I put my phone on vibrate. I might web surf before the previews come on, if I'm bored, but usually I don't.

I really hate people who can't disconnect for the length of a movie. Stay home and wait for it to come out on P2P, for pity's sake!

I am pretty anal when it comes to watching movies. The slightest annoyance can keep me from enjoying the movie, which is why we go to the first showing in the middle of the week after a movie has been out for about a week. More than once I have yelled at people in theaters for taking or checking their phone constantly.

Makes me a little . It's a movie theater, not your couch at home watching alone with the curtains closed.

I think the only time I have used a phone in a movie theatre was during a 3.5 hour movie when I was gauging if I could keep holding it in through the grand finale or whether I was going to explode.

People at the movies do this all the time. I want to take every little brat's cell phone and stomp them all with my biggest heels.

It must be nice to have $20 you all can just waste on a movie and snacks and to sit there for 1 1/2-2 hours texting and browsing away. SOME of us don't have very much money, have to work awful hours, and barely have any time off, and going out to the movies is a TREAT for us.

if i even remembered to bring my phone... it's on vibrate or off. i rarely get calls or text messages on it tho. but if i want to reply, i get up and go to the exit.

=/ why is that so freakin' hard for some people?

I have gotten a "in a movie, ttyl" response to a text.... and then they actually respond to whatever i asked them... or... 1.5-2 hrs after having sent it, i'll get, the response, with the "sorry, was in a movie" tagged on....

I have been with a friend, who rotates "on-call" for the hospital(s?), she has gottten a page, and gone out to the lobby to deal with it... and then back to the movie, when she's able, unfortunately her pager did not have a "silent" setting.... it was on (and loud) or off... but she is quick on the draw and that pager did have a button on it (kinda like a snooze or ignore?) that would make it shut up... and now, i think the pages go directly to her cell... which she can set on vibrate..

I agree though, I would have gotten a manger or usher, b/c handling it yourself could've gone badly... and as far as feet on the back of the chair in front of you - only if no one is sitting in it. (imo)

*goes off to google these and find somewhere to get one*

Hubby and I went to see Alice in Wonderland a while back and there was a group of about 6 teenage girls who spent the entire movie texting each other, taking photos of each other on their phones, trying to take photos of the film (damn the flash was annoying), moving seats every 15 mins and then left 10 mins before the film ended. In my opinion, all cinemas should have mobile disrupters. Nothing is that important that you cant be "off the grid" so to speak for 2 hours. And if there is, what the hell are you doing at the movies then!
