  • When worlds collide

As many of you know, I seem to be a magnet for the paranormal (and crazy people) and find the paranormal extremely interesting so with that said here is what happened.

I was out shopping with Mr. Mis and I was wearing my favorite t-shirt that says "Got Ghosts?" and I was wearing a cross necklace my grandmother passed down. I'm not the religious sort (which is why I find it so amusing people assume by my family's' actions that we are what Christians should be like) but I wear the necklace for sentimental value.

An elderly clerk stops us and asks me how I can wear that shirt with that necklace. Mr. Mis looks over at me and knows if I answer the man that no good will come of it. So, Mr. Mis tells me to turn around, so the man can see the back of the shirt that says "I survived the ghost tour". The clerk seems satisfied with that and tells us he use to teach the history of our town to high school kids and walks away. I guess he just left the history of paranormal actives our town is famous for out of it.

We do live in a sort of Bible belt but I have never had anyone so much as give us a second glance before when I'm out and wearing my t-shirt. I get more of a reaction from the different Shakespeare t-shirts I wear and only because people want me to explain what they mean and a small percent want to know where they can buy one.

How could you wear a cross and a reference to spirits at the same time?!?!? Don't you know that there are no such things as ghosts or spirits in the Bible!?!?!?!?

Oh, no, wait... Jesus Himself gave testimony to the existence of ghosts. Luke 24:37-39
They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have."

You can find anything you want in the Bible.

Or you could just ask him
'Don't you believe in the Holy Ghost?'

And walk away leaving him confuzzled.

I was raised in a fundamental pentecostal church, so I know the Bible more than the average person, which is why Mr. Mis knew no good would come of it for the clerk if I answered the question.

*highfives Mis* I too am a paranormal magnet/enthusiast. We should trade stories sometime (I have several. O.o)

While I don't have any ghost-related clothing, I am the proud owner of a few books about hauntings and stuff. I bring them to school with me in October. While wearing a necklace with a depiction of the Virgin Mary on it (my mom gave it to me for First Communion, and I never take it off unless I absolutely have to). No one's given me grief yet.

I saw the t-shirt in our town's haunted bookstore and I jumped on it even though I haven't been on their haunted tour. My daughter and I plan on going this year, since Mr. Mis has no desire to be anywhere near the paranormal. Yes, he knew I was a magnet before we married and knew that any children we might have would probably be too, which they are. He does his best to ignore the many signs of it around the house even though he helped name our resident spirit.

You should see how fast Mr. Mis can leave a room when the kids and I sit down and compare notes.

Sounds kinda like my dad. Get this- My dad is possibly the biggest skeptic I know. My mom is pretty skeptical too, even though she has had a first-hand encounter with the ghost cat who lives in my house. My sister is also extremely skeptical. Somehow, the ability to ignore the paranormal completely skipped me. I'm the only one in my immediate family with an actual belief-based-on-personal-experience in ghosts. Apparently, though, it comes from having sensitives on both sides of my family.

I have always told my children to look for a normal explanation first, don't jump to the paranormal first only if there is no other explanation.

My little guy, who will be 12 this month, is easily freaked out. Poor kid, he has the gift but it scares him. My other two children and I all try to help him deal with it all.

My family has a long line of sensitives, so it is an inherited trait in our family, with some of it having it stronger than others. It can be a gift or a curse depending.

I was raised in a very strict religious household, so having the gift was considered evil, so I spent many hours trying to pray it away or ignoring it, none of which worked. It wasn't till I grew up and left the church did I realize it wasn't evil and I wasn't evil for having it.

I went to a private Christian school all 4 years of high school, so I know what you mean about the whole 'the gift being considered evil' thing. However, I've only given it thought recently, as my gift has only become heightened over the past couple years. Looking back on it, I can safely say that several people from my high school would have a heart attack if they knew of my fascination with ghosts now.

It's awesome, though, that you're able to help your son deal with it. I have a few friends who are considerably more sensitive than I am (though one of them denies the fact and says I'm the one who's more sensitive), but getting a hold of them if I'm having trouble with something is difficult sometimes.

What you mean you take the same attitude towards this as churches take towards miracles? How dare you ?

Seems I'm not the only one with a ghost kitty here! Some of you might remember me posting about Snow...who died of a heart attack in my kitchen I don't think she's gone though--I'd always see something white running around the house, and I'd hear strange scratching noises near "her" corner in my office. Even now, it wouldn't surprise me if Sally and Baxter are playing with her when they're running around the house

i'm not exactly a skeptical... i think i'm just closed off to paranormal things. kinda like... i could be receptive, but the signal's usually jammed.

according to mom we use to be more receptive tho. when we were little kids and sick, she'd think "it's time for the medication" and we'd just walk in for it before she even said anything.

and of course she's a mom so... sometimes she knew when bad things happened, instantly. sis fell while waterskiing, she knew. sis got scared while watching a horror flick... mom called home to see if everything was ok. dad & i were in a car that flipped... she knew. (when i told her the car had flipped, she said "I know", and she was down in the basement and hadn't seen the towed car yet).

my grandmother was also sensitive. she would feel cold spots in a diner she worked in... supposedly a baby had died in the basement there. lights on the 3rd floor were also reported as turning on by themselves. and when i looked up the place online later, it was listed as a known haunted location.

PepperElf I would think that is a most moms thing. When my daughter was in grade school that was over 2 miles away from our house I heard her calling for me. I looked outside to see if there was a child outside but no one was out.

I found out later, she had been calling for me at that exact time because she had gotten hurt on the playground.

When my sons have been close to being hurt or hurt, I have a feeling that I should go to them even if they aren't anywhere near me. It's the same thing with my husband, I felt when he has needed me too.

If my dad and I are within five miles of each other, it seems to amplify our abilities. Which is strange since I don't speak to him so it's not like we are close.
