  • HEY COLLEGE STUDENTS

I'm totally stealing this from another forum so I'm just going to quote

    Quoth the shit i'm stealing
A friend sent me this link:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info

I signed up and it seemed legit.

Sorry if this has been posted before. Let it be a reminder if it has been.

    Here are the details:

"Join Amazon Student and get FREE Two-Day Shipping for one year with a free Amazon Prime membership ($79 value), as well as e-mail alerts for exclusive promotions. There is no cost to join--simply sign up by providing your school and major."

"Welcome to the terms and conditions ("Terms") for Amazon Student, which govern the Amazon Student membership. Please note that your use of the Amazon.com Web site and the Amazon Student membership are also governed by our Conditions of Use, Privacy Notice, Amazon Prime Terms & Conditions, as well as all other applicable terms, conditions, limitations and requirements on the Amazon.com Web site.

    Membership Benefits

If you sign up for an Amazon Student membership, for the first year of that membership, you will receive one free year of Amazon Prime. We may choose to extend this free offer for more than one year. With Amazon Prime, you will be entitled to FREE Two-Day shipping and $3.99 per unit One-Day shipping on all eligible purchases for one year. The automatic renewal provisions in the Amazon Prime Terms & Conditions (which would require you to pay for Amazon Prime) do not apply to this membership, even if we decide to extend the free Amazon Prime offer beyond one year. There is no minimum purchase requirement. Amazon Student members will also be entitled to discounts and promotions, which we will communicate to you via e-mail or make available on the Amazon Student membership page at http://www.amazon.com/student

    Conditions

To sign up for and use Amazon Student, you must:
    (1) have an Amazon.com account
    (2) be a college student actively enrolled in at least one course at a college geographically located in one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia
    (3) be able to provide proof of enrollment upon request and
    (4) have a valid e-mail address that contains the domain suffix .edu. We may accept or refuse membership in our sole discretion.

We may ask you to furnish documentation supporting your eligibility. If you do not provide documentation indicating that you meet the eligibility requirements above, you may be required to reimburse us for benefits you received as a result of your Amazon Student membership. The Amazon Student membership is for personal use only and not for the purpose of resale. You may not transfer or assign your Amazon Student membership or the benefits associated with an Amazon Student membership.

    Agreement Changes

We may in our discretion change these Terms or any aspect of Amazon Student membership, without notice to you. If any change is found invalid, void, or for any reason unenforceable, that change is severable and does not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining changes or conditions. YOUR CONTINUED MEMBERSHIP AFTER WE CHANGE THESE TERMS CONSTITUTES YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THE CHANGES. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO ANY CHANGES, YOU MUST CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP.

    Communications

We may send you promotions or otherwise communicate with you electronically via e-mail, and you hereby consent to receive those communications, regardless of requests you may have indicated on the Amazon.com Web site or by any other means. If you would like to stop receiving e-mail notifications from Amazon Student, you must cancel your Amazon Student membership, which may be cancelled here: Manage Your Student Membership

    Termination by Us

We may terminate your Amazon Student membership at our discretion without notice. Failure to insist upon or enforce your strict compliance with these Terms will not constitute a waiver of any of our rights.
I signed up a few weeks ago and its legit on my end. Most of my textbooks came up as Prime Shipping, but I'm renting this semester since I'm extra broke. You get prime shipping on ANYTHING, it doesnt have to be school related. Its pretty sweet. You need to have a college email though, I believe. Proof of enrollment, if your college doesnt give student email, would be a current semester class schedule, I would assume.

If it makes textbooks cheaper??? Renting + college mandated buying, my textbooks are TWO HUNDRED. Super cheap, for college textbooks, which says a lot.

edit: mind you this is books on pre-algrebra, biology (general intro) and psychology (general intro). This shit hasnt changed in the last 50 years but one of my books is a first edition.

      Really.

I've already bought my books (and I'll always buy because I like to keep most of them for future reference).
But I do still need to buy Microsoft Office (damn you Bill Gates).

Use Open Office. Its free and you can save in MSOffice formats. its linux based, no torrent, nothing illegal.

Also, while i love (LOVE) to keep my textbooks, i cant afford the extra one or two hundred dollars this semseter to do so

sadly open office isn't an option, one of my classes requires office 2010 (because the text book comes with a software program that is an add on to office 2010).
Otherwise, yes, I would switch to open office in a heartbeat (though I think I may still get open office anyway for my desktop since I know that 2010 won't run on it and it hopefully will allow me to transfer to 2010 on my laptop).

Thanks for that link. I have to order one book from someplace since my online class isn't offering to send it this term, instead having some associated bookstores stock them. Unfortunately these are NOT at the school I'm attending, so I cannot use my student loan money. If I have to buy them, I'll pick them up elsewhere and save some money.

Doesn't your student bookstore have an option for you to purchase it through them? You should be able to qualify for a pretty good discount on Office as a student. I've done that for all my computers.

Man I sure wish we had something like this here in Canada. I start a program in January and my books & supplies for the first year are going to cost around $1500.
The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away.

Darn it, Smileyeagle I know there is a website where you can get Microsoft Office dirt cheap, but for the life of me I can't remember!! Maybe someone on here may know. I had to purchase the 2007 version two years ago and I was directed to a site by my professor which sold complete Microsoft Office to students for only $39.00!! I downloaded it and I love it!! Anyways I guess you can always check with your university bookstore, as my bookstore will sell MS Office for
$99.00, which is pretty cheap compared to regular retail. Sorry about not remembering. If I do end up remembering, I will just PM you the sight..K..

One thing to be wary of with this.

We all know how people miss the small print. Quite often, companies will bill you for the next instance of the "free month/year/whatever if you do not cancel it before the time comes.

In this case, they may bill your card for the next year of Amazon prime. Now, I have not found anything that says they will, nor did I see it, but as I said, people (like me) tend to miss these things. It is quite possible they will not do so, but better to be safe than sorry.

Amazon prime doesnt actually do that. Its one of the things I checked.

You didnt even read the big print, its in my op
