  • "I want that one"

No, this one doesn't involve the guy from Little Britain, but it made as much sense.

I was at the local market (which was quite empty for some reason) checking the various laptops, as I need to buy a new one. A man (not young, quite small, shabby, not smelling too clean, seemingly inebriated) comes by, asks me if I had seen anybody who could help him to pick a laptop, I answer that no, I hadn't - to which he proceeds to try to very smoothly take one of the display laptops from its position. Of course it was chained there, and he could barely move it. I remain pretty much frozen in surprise. At that point, probably having seen him on a security camera or something, a man in the shop's uniform comes over. At first he tries the polite approach, as if the wannabe shoplifter had simply asked for information on that specific laptop, quoting price (not cheap) and the fact that he'd need to wait for a couple of days to get one as they are in back-order.
The SC starts complaining that if they have one on display they should "damn well" have some for sale as well, getting a bit nervous. At which point I - that in the meanwhile was busy comparing two laptops - decide to back away a bit, still remaining in sight in case my testimony (or presence, as I am a big guy) would be needed.
At this point, the SC starts punching the laptops, screens and all the stuff displayed there. The employee at this point of course got slightly upset - but not enough to touch him. A minute later two big policemen came. The SC was STILL shouting and ranting. Without a word, they took his arms and handcuffed him. One asked me if the employee had done anything to him, I say that he hadn't even touched him and offer to give my details as a witness. The policeman smiles and points at the security cameras. The guy got taken away. I asked the employee (a man in his 50s) if he was OK, he even seemed mildly amused. "Not the first time", he said.

One lost a couple of keys, but they were found and replaced - they were display machines after all, not for sale anyway. And the guy was so weak/drunk that I'm not sure if all his punches connected anyway

Well, if the display machine gets damaged enough, it doesn't reflect well (to subsequent customers) on the product it's advertising. For instance, I have to wonder if the sound quality of the computer speakers on display is affected when the cones are pushed in.

But if the screen isn't broken and the keyboard still works as it should, it should be okay.

This guy pretty much doomed humanity. In the war of humans vs. machines, he struck the first blow.
To right the countless wrongs of our days... We shine this light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise...Oh, what a wonderful world such would be...

That's true. I would expect the supermarket to insist at least for a partial refund of that machine. Which in my opinion was an overrated piece of electronic garbage anyway, but still
