  • Why would Logmein start by itself?

PC was on overnight the other night. When I noticed it in the morning, I also saw that Logmein had appeared in the system tray. Nobody had touched the machine overnight, and I hadn't used Logmein for weeks. Not in startup services either, so I ruled out a spontaneous reboot. I've only used it to connect to my brother's computer so I don't have to drive there to help him. He doesn't know how to use it, so 'twasn't him.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but that gives me the willies. How can it just start itself?

If you accidentally start the program it can be set to start minimized.

Thought about that, but I was the last to bed and the first to rise. Not saying it's impossible, just very unlikely. Asked the son and he said he wasn't up. (He's an adult, I'd tend to believe him.)

Anything in the scheduler or the configs of the app itself to perform automatic updates?

Outside of that, I'd be running any and all security checks you have. Isn't Logmein a remote access app?

It's set to automatically detect and update, the last update shown is dated June 2010. That's before I installed it. I exited it through the system tray before I had the presence of mind to look at the log, and that's gone now. I have it turned off when I'm not using it. I haven't found anything conclusive that tells whether the updates do their thing when it's turned off.

Yep, it's a remote access app. I've been running scans, so far everything's come up okay in safe mode.

Did LMI do an update or your PC? I know that sometimes after windows does updates my LMI reboots as well... other option, I had my cat somehow step on the keyboard in the right order to activate a single program before... Just to be safe change your LMI access password for that machine.

Crono: sounds like the machine update became a clusterf*ck..

It would have been LMI updating if anything did. But, I do have a cat...

A techy friend stopped over last night and I asked him if he had any thoughts on it. He looked at me like I had two heads. So, maybe it's either the cat or the two heads that caused the strangeness.

Just to be on the safe side, might want to get it checked at a shop when you can. It is probably nothing (update), but I always stand behind the 'better safe then sorry' philosophy.
