  • Not real patient with other people's dogs on my property

Especially when they are large, nasty tempered backbiting asshole dogs.

I go out this morning to get some fresh water out of the tank outside ( I haul well water over here to drink...my municipal water is not something I trust) and there is this huge black german shepard running around my yard growling and barking.

I have seen this dog before, I think he belongs to a guest of my neighbor. And I have called animal control on him before because the damn thing was trying to sneak up and attack me while my back was turned in my own fucking yard.

    Oh HELL to the no.

I haven't seen the dog in almost two hours. I couldn't call right then because the Animal Control office wasn't open.

I keep seeing it over in the vicinity of my neighbor's place...dunno if that means anything. Not sure.

Anyways, I put the AC number in my phone. I'll keep you posted if it gets interesting.

Not in a way I could get to it and do that with any sort of practicality, no. I'd have to walk around with a hose all the time. It's not like I can see it coming.

I have a five year old daughter and this dog, by all evidence, is aggressive and vicious.

Here's a more detailed version of what happened this morning: I walked outside towards my laundry room, where the water tank is. My laundry room is down the far end of the house, and when you round a corner, right beyond it, there is a gate.

My backyard is fenced. The dog was right beyond the gate. He went apeshit. We suprised each other when I rounded the corner. The kicker? My gate was open.

Since my dog died couple years ago, I'm just not that attentive to making sure all my gates are closed up and locked. I guess I will be now.

Here's the other kicker: My daughter's play area is down there in the laundry yard. It's a shade garden. What if it had been her going down there and not me?

Like I said, I saw this fucker before, when he tried to bite me while I was raking leaves in my own front yard, which has no fence.

As of yet, I have not seen the dog again since this morning. I think the last encounter, whoever owned it heard the sonic boom of violent profanity and threats I unleashed because after that, the dog disappeared. And then went away this morning. So we shall see.

I swear, somebody's dog comes over to my yard and attacks me or my family, ya'll will see the mushroom cloud of flaming shit from way over wherever you are.

Dang, if that were me, I'd be in my house screaming because I'd be so freaked. My neighbors used to have a huge black german shephard, named Tom. He was the meanest dog ever, used to be a police dog. He would kill cats, so no doubt he'd attack a kid.
I hope you get this figured out and the dog taken care of before someone gets hurt.

Well, it startled me, I won't deny that. However, when I am scared, I don't tend to retreat, I tend to attack. The dog is scared of me and runs away when I advance on him. However, what makes him dangerous is that he is sneaky enough to try and come up quietly behind me, which is what he did when I was raking the yard.

          I despise that.

I went after him with a fencing sword that day (it was all I had, but honestly, in the hands of determined person, you can put a very bad hurting on an unarmored oppponent with one of those. You can whip the hide off someone. Literally. ) I called DHEC that day, but by the time they showed up, dog had disappeared.

Going on two now, and still no dog. I almost hope he comes back so I can get this problem sorted out one way or another. This morning, I saw tags on him. Might be worth it to try and trap him in my backyard if he comes back.

EDIT:I am not sure who owns the dog at this point. If I did, I assure you steps would be being made right this very minute to end this.

Gah, I hate when people don't control their dogs...and if the dog's that vicious, I doubt it's just because that's how he is, it's probably because of how he was raised.

I remember when I was 12, I walked home from school with my sister and her friend, and this little dog ran out at us, barking and growling. It tried to bite my sister, her friend, and then DID bite me. The only reason it ran off is because a neighbor lady saw what was going on and chased it off. The kicker? Its owners were RIGHT THERE ON THEIR PORCH. They just watched their dog attack us.

I had a pretty nasty dog bite through my jeans [no blood, but tons of bruises from teeth imprints] and had to take giant pills for a while. Animal Control talked to them and their dog was put in quarantine for a while, but a little later after that, my sister and I were walking down the alley behind that block and the dog came at us AGAIN. I made it chase me 'cause my sister had really bad asthma and did a lot of stopping and starting and throwing rocks at it to keep it from biting me again.

After that, I think the dog was put down.

People really need to take care of their dogs and keep them under control.

The way people sue each other like crazy anymore, you'd think people would make sure their dogs didn't put them in a position to be sued.

I had something similar happen to me years ago but I didn't get bit. I chased the dog down the street and I am pretty sure the neighbor saw me. It wasn't a big, dangerous dog, but I don't care how big it is, I am not trying to get bit by a dog.

Next time, I brought Silly String. I figured it would not harm the dog, but would send a clear message. But there was no next time, the neighbor kept his dog in his yard after that.

I'd be totally embarassed if my dog came after someone in their yard or in the street. Hopefully, he was.

There's a judge judy episode where a woman came-out of her house and was attacked by 3-dogs. It ended-up she got away from them but they got in her house! They did thousands of dollars in damage. The kicker was the owners..the only people in the area who owned 3-dogs like that...the only ones who she had ever seen having 3-dogs like that IN THEIR YARD...the only ones who had ever reported all 3-of their dogs getting away before...

tried to say it wasn't them!

                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a59NZ...ext=1&index=13

Her house was a wreck afterwards!

I hope that dog gets brought under control before something bad happens to anyone.

Ironically, just last night we watched a movie called "Sandlot 2". It's a kid's movie. It features a "monster dog" known by the neighborhood kids as "The Great Fear."

Funny how life imitates art sometimes.

I need a nickname for this dog. "The Great Fear" is too grand for him. He's more like "The Sneaky Annoyance".

My mother is scared of dogs off leash. She freaked when we were camping and walking to the comfort station in the dark and someone's dog came trotting out to investigate (the dog didn't look friendly, it was probably scared because it was somewhere new). And when I say freaked: I never knew she was a tenor before.

I asked her about when this developed, and she said she wasn't sure, she's always been nervous around dogs. I figured out that the reason she never seemed scared before is that she had my sister and me around. She was always very proactive in finding the owner, tearing a strip out of their hide if need be, and making sure my sister and I were ok. Why? Because there was a big scary dog around! And she needed to defend her babies. Being scared of something can make people really scary, you aren't alone in that RK.

Next time you have an out of hours issue, odds are you can call your local PD (whether that be a city or a county/parish, whoever has jurisdiction). Animal Control generally works, if not actually for, hand in hand with whatever Police Department has jurisdiction over an area. They should either have a regular officer they can send out or a cel/pager number they can use for whatever ACO (Animal Control Officer) is on call.

The fine details can of course vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but I tried to boil it down to the stuff that should be the same elsewhere. I know way to much about that sort of thing with my wife having spent ten years in that line of work. . .

I'll just leave my comment there as People Suck.

I'm not really a dog person, but I like them ok. However, large dogs make me nervous. Though I don't really recall it myself, as a child I was apparently tackled by a huge sheepdog in the park. The sheepdog was thrilled to see small children who could play with him, but the terrified 4-year old wasn't so happy about it. My mother said it seemed to happen in slow motion and that she'd never been so terrified in her life. Although it should never have happened, the owners were at least horribly embarrassed.

i dont mind large dogs but they need to be on a leash and well controlled. even if someone says a dog is well trained when off the leash i dont tend to believe it too much. a lot of dogs can just turn nasty for no reason, even family pets that have been part of a family for years.

i was bitten 3 times by dogs when i was growing up. once on the cheek and twice on my arms. im wary now of dogs.

There is no excuse to allow dogs to behave as in the examples in this thread.

It is pure laziness on the part of the owner, who failed to socialize their dogs.

I have two neighbors with vicious dogs who fortunately are not allowed to run loose (one has since moved). Our Animal Control is a joke.

Evil Empryss once called to complain about a large dog menacing her and her son in their own front yard. When she called to complain, Animal Control wanted her to catch the dog!

Another one of my neighbors has a little yippy dog he lets run loose in the neighborhood. The dog came into my yard and tried to attack me while I was mowing the lawn.

I went after the dog with the lawn mower, and chased him off. He won't even come down my street now. But he still runs loose

I like dogs fine, I think they are wonderful animals. What I don't like is people allowing their dogs to run wild and bother other people.

I have not seen the dog since. Husband is pretty sure it belongs to someone who visits the neighbor occasionally, which is what I am starting to feel pretty sure of.

I suspect it being out yesterday may have been an accident.
