  • Get away from our dumpster!!!!

It was 5AM last night while I was on my rounds. The lots are dark and deserted. I'm coming around the corner of the building when I see a cab cruise through the lot and park back in our loading/trash area. Absolutely NO REASON for it to be back there. I get closer and hear 'thumping.' I get around the corner and see the Driver tossing a trunk-full of trash into OUR DUMPSTER! I yelled at him to hold, to stop, etc. He ignored me until I was right next to him and by that time his trunk was empty. I asked him what he thought he was doing. He said with a sarcastic sneer 'throwing away trash!' I told him yeah, he was, but that this was our dumpster, on private property, that we have to pay to empty and that he could dispose of his trash on his own dime. He just said 'I'm sure you can handle a few boxes!' Got in his cab and drove-off.

I took-down his cab # and plate and called the company. I told the dispatcher what happened and described the guy. I wasn't even half-way through when she said "Oh, I know EXACTLY who you're talking about. We'll talk to him."

I just can't believe that this guy came out of his way to sneak around our property to dump shit in our trash. The mall was CLOSED; no fares to pick up, nothing. Stupid douchemuffin.

I was coming home one night and spotted someone from the shops that line one side of our apartment complex wander out his back door with a load of junk that he tossed into one of the apartment's dumpsters.

Needless to say, I ratted him out to the complex management so they could have a little chat with the neighbors about that shit. The worst part is that they have their own freaking dumpster, but to use it, they'd have to walk further to use it.

Some folks might this isn't a big deal but when you're paying for the use of the dumpster and someone else is filling it up and there's no room for your trash then it is a big deal. Some areas I have dumpsters are required to be bear proof. Since the cost is the same bear proof or not I now have them all bear proof and I have them all pad locked. Once upon a time I'd dumpster dive and find other people's trash and then call them and tell them to stay off of my property and next time I'd have them up on trespass.
Also when I've rented construction dumpsters I've had to put cameras on them. Other builders and folks in the neighborhood will fill them up. I've made several builders and other folks come and get their trash.
I can also get fined by the city/county/state if I have a full dumpster not within 2 days of it being emptied and if that's the case the inspector will call the waste service and have it emptied. The I get to pay for the off-plan dumping, depending upon the landfill I can also be charged by the pound or volumn and I'm also hit with the fine.

We had somebody throw a couch in our cardboard only dumpster. Not only did it not fit, we could have gotten fined out the wazoo for having trash in the recycling. I loved catching people at it with my cellphone out and the cops on speed dial.

That's so true. And for every 1 we catch, there must be 30 more that we don't! It's unreal what people try to hide around our property, and this dumpster is just one of 3 that we have. That guy was lucky the dumpster was a big one, or I'd have made him take his stuff back! I did that to a guy once, but it was the small dumpster he could reach into. They either argue it's no big deal, or huff and puff that they thought it was a public dumpster

I had a woman call me and demand that I leave my dumpster nearest her home unlocked because it is her right as a citizen to dispose of her trash in any dumpster. She also informed me that all dumpsters are by law open to the public and if I didn't leave it open she'd call the police on me. The old bat actually called the police and they told her the dumpsters are private property and the only ones that are available to the public are at the county convienence centers. She then went to city council meeting and tried to get her way made into an ordiance and when that didn't work she tried the same thing at the county commission meeting. They all basically told her to buzz off. I had my attorney write her a letter to stay off of my property and copied the LEOs.
Who ever knew there would be so many politics involved with dumpsters.

A slight OT, my Mom owns some property that was for years a popular spot for county dwellers to dump their trash. My Dad started going through the trash getting names and addresses. Everyone to a person said they didn't do that and someone must have stolen their trash and put it there. Yeah right. Mom had the lot cleaned off and fenced and people still dumped their trash there and used the samed excuses. Finally they got the LEOs involved and they started fining people before it stopped. I kid you not my sisters were threatened with violence by kids whose parents were fined. I have a cousin that owns some old strip mines that were for years a popular dumping area. As long as people put their trash in the pit he didn't care but several just dumped it along the road and he had to use his tractor to push it off into the pit. One day he nearly crashed into the pit and that would have killed him. The next day he fenced the pit and the road off with a five strand barbed wire fence and several no-trespassing signs. Folks actually cut the fence to dump their trash. Finally he dug up the road to where it was impassable.
Years later the county tried to make him clean up the pit, he told them to buzz off and signed it over to the county. The county cleaned it up and made a park out of it.

My mom used to have to constantly call the cops on people for dumping their trash in Payless' dumpster back when she had a 2nd job there.

As far as recently....this is probably not illegal, but it just irks me. We have our dumpster and our giant recycling bin the same size as the dumpster. Once or twice a week, the maintenance guy, while doing his nosy rounds of checking up on things around here, he parks and unloads several large bags of trash into the dumpster. That just pisses me off, because the garbage trucks are so willy nilly about coming here often enough to keep them empty, and the fact that this asshole thinks that just because he has authority to always be checking up on people around here, he can dump all of the property management companie's trash (or maybe it's even HIS personal trash from home?) in our dumpster, ohhh it irks me. Why our dumpster, even? They own almost every rental unit in town.

Emptying dumpsters can get expensive, and if you have to pay for extra dumps due to these selfish assh*les it can really add up.

Quite a few years ago I was doing testing for a new buffet resturant being added to an existing strip mall. Several times we observed a pickup truck with _huge_ wooden walls added to it stuffed to the rafters with trash. It drove behind the strip mall and dump the trash into the mall's dumpsters, often filling 4-5 of them to the brim. The truck had a name and number on it and I and the site rep informed mall management about this. They were quite interested as there had been a lot of complaints about illegal dumping.

They hired a kid with a video camera and over the course of several weeks filmed this guy filling their dumpsters. They then called the cops who caught the guy in the act. Turns out he had a business liscense to pick up trash but instead of taking it to the dump (where he'd have to pay tipping fees) he decided to dump it for free in dumpsters behind businesses; this was apparently not the only place he'd been doing this.

From what I heard the dumpster company fined him $500 for every illegal dump that was filmed (this was written on each dumpster) for a total of some $8500, although I doubt they collected. The judge fined him as well and reported him to the county business office which suspended his business license for 90 days. The word was he went out of business.

Actually, if he doesn't live on site and doesn't have express permission from the management company, it is illegal for him to dump his garbage there. Even if he is a contractor for the property.

In that sort of situation, however, I doubt he would get in trouble unless your management people were having problems with too much garbage.

We used to have people drive up in the middle of the night and dump their trash in the dumpsters in my complex. One of the management teams (we've gone through several in the couple of years we've been there) must have cracked down on it, as I haven't been woken by those s for some time.

The complex next door shares an entrance with mine and my complex has a dumpster right inside our part of the entrance. It's very obvious that it's on Riverwalk property, not Camino Real.

I don't know how many times I've seen people from some of the front buildings in Camino Real come over and throw their trash in our dumpster because they're too bone-idle to walk to theirs. What makes it even better is that Camino Real has a concierge trash pick-up service for residents. If you're too fucking lazy to go to your own damn dumpster, use that! Idiots.

Years ago when I worked at the computer store, we had our dumpster chained and locked. Every once in a while I'd find someone left their bag of trash on top of it in the morning. One time I went through the bag that was left, found the persons name and address on their mail, then shipped their trash back to them. I would have loved to have been there when they opened the box to find their own trash.
