Apparently they are getting rid of the idea that Time Lords can only regenerate 12 times by including a throw away line in The Sarah Jane Adventures.

actually I though the Dr.'s limit was reincarnation #13 brought to light during the "Trial of a Time Lord" (Collin Baker era)

had to happen as the Dr. got even more popular world wide. and the 12 regenerations was carried forward into several story episodes. but the the MASTER seemed to be able to circumvent the "limitation"

There are a few things. First, a time lord killing another permanatly will give the killer the regenerations left over. Since The Doctor destroyed Gallafrey itself, I would imagine he has a ton of regenerations, now. After that, I doubt that the BBC will ever give up its most popular series.

Andrew, I never thought the BBC would kill the series to maintain the storyline, but that's pretty cool about the killer getting the leftover regenerations.

In The Five Doctors, Time Lord President Borusa wants Rassilon's secret for himself, describing Rassilon's immortality as "perpetual bodily regeneration".

Which is ironic because the Doctor saw what happened to Borusa when he "won" the secret - he was turned into an immortal statue.
