  • Temporary ban on black cat adoptions (Halloween)

Huh. The article makes several very good points-- but, but, kitties
Man, if I could have cats, I'd have a dozen black ones and an unknown number of other colors, probably just as many, 'cuz I love black and black cats-- black cats seem more... cat-like. More elegant and silent and svelte. (Really, I know that they can be just as loud, obnoxious, and/or needy as any other kitty, but still. Black!)

They do this every halloween as far as I know. I just noticed yesterday I have 1 orange cat and 1 black cat (dark tortie). I'm also an October baby.

Another disadvantage of a black cat is that they can't be seen very well at night. My sister had one, a big black tom cat named Koko (very energetic and playful) who wound up getting hit by a car one one late night.

Shelters will also put temporary bans on adopting white cats as well. Too many sick wastes of human flesh out there. It's the one thing about Halloween that always gets me down.

I loooooooooove black cats. (My boy that passed away in February was one, and so is his surviving brother) They're just so pretty!

The rescue/adoption league I work with does not place black cats for adoption during the month of October.

I love black cats; I always call them "witch's cats". Strange that I never have had one; my kitties were a grey, black and ginger cat and a calico. XD

I personally loved my FatCat, who was a tortie, was mostly black but had all sorts of orange and white and grey mixed in with it. She was so beautiful and so warm and always purring.

I think Mr. Katt would argue that......Isis spends most of her time in his lap-only time she's near me is bedtime...then she has to lie on me, or next to me, or under my blanket......not like I'm bitter or anything....no I just change their litter box, feed and water them, buy their toys....but get no kitty love.....

They often do the same with bunnies and chicks around Easter.

There are 4 cats that hang out around the parking lot by the side of my building (the doctor's office next door feeds them). One is all black (he's the smallest and my favorite) and one is black with a white blaze on his nose. I worry about them at night sometimes.

(The others are a long-haired gray and a short-haired gray and white - he reminds me of my first kitty. The blacks are both short-haired.)

I've heard of these things before. I don't know if black cats really do see more abuse on Halloween or if it's just anecdotal, or even if it's just year-round human cruelty and stupidity and it's just more noticeable this time of year.

I do miss my Shadow, though. Every black cat I've known has had such a sweet personality. I don't know if it's something genetic or if they're just grateful to meet a friendly, non-superstitious human.

The temporary ban is a double-whammy for black cats, who are already the least likely to get adopted in most shelters, officials say.
If I had the space and money, I'd adopt every black cat I could.

                              They're so adorable!
