  • Bracelets for a good cause are walked off

Went to the monthly Parent Support Meeting for parents at my daughter's school. Basically, it's the 2 main Autism teachers, 1 teacher assistant, sometimes the Speech Therapist, myself, and 2 other moms.

One of the moms, LT, is trying to put together a public school that not only educates children with Autism, but also incorporates therapies every day into the curriculum.

This past Saturday, there was a "Circle of Support" Conference for those in the county with children with autism and other disabilities. (Last year, Temple Grandin was the keynote speaker). LT was able to set up a booth in front area of the building where the conference was being held, and had items for sale. (Hand-made bracelets, Christmas cards, shirts with the name of the proposed school - LT is still looking for a suitable, and priced just-right building). She had price tags in front of each group of merchandise (for example: Christmas card pile and placed in front of it a tag that read "Christmas Cards $1). Well, the hand-made bracelets were priced for $5 each. (They had a puzzle piece bead, light blue & royal blue beads, and a ribbon bead that had the word "hope" on it). A group of 4 women came up, grabbed a bracelet each, thought they were gorgeous and sauntered off with the bracelets without paying for them!

LT was shocked! When she told me, her eyes got wide, and she was like "we're only out $20, but still ...."

    Yeah ...

This woman is trying to raise money to start a school to benefit autistic children in the county whose parents cannot afford the few private autism schools in the state. And here are 4 woman stealing $5 bracelets!

    Sheesh.

Did she not have an opportunity to call them out on it? Maybe give them the dose of public shaming they so obviously need?

Please tell me someone chased them down and either chewed them out, had them arrested or kicked their asses...

yes, each bitch badly needs a extra large mudhole stomped in their asses to dislodge that overwhelming sense of entitlement.

a good cause and they treat it like a swag freebie event...

A simple shout of "STOP THIEF" should do it.

LT said she was in a state of shock that these women completely ignored the "Bracelets: $5" sign that she wasn't sure what she was supposed to do. I told her the next time she sets up her booth for her school (Ezra and Friends) at a function like that, she should have me help her at her booth, I'll make sure everyone knows the prices of everything. I'm vigilant like that.

not to mention calling them out over stealing funds from an autism project would... put them in the house of shame

That's just really really sad. I hope they really just weren't paying attention to the sign and are not really such sick, heartless B**ches. If they are, they deserve to get run-over by a city bus.

It is a great school concept. LT is looking at buildings around town, but some of the prices are just ridiculous, hopefully something will come through. If Mr. Rum wasn't being sent to Ft. Meade, and we were planning on moving, I'd be putting Child into the school.

Yeah, the women were ... OoO ... I don't want to say mean things, but I was outraged when LT told me the story.

I'm thinking of making some autism-themed items for the spring bazar she wants to set up.

Best of luck to LT. It sounds like an awesome goal.

As for the ladies.... Having run my own art table at conventions for about four years now, I've developed enough backbone that I would've called out after the ladies. Give them the benefit of the doubt and pretend they didn't see the price tag (because heaven knows customers never read), but say, "Excuse me ladies, you need to pay for those!" Then give them my biggest and brightest smile. If they continue to walk away, then they definitely become thieves and get called out on it.

That is heartbreaking. I have a cousin who has Autism, and I know several people with it as well. I sincerely hope they didn't see a tag or something. I just cannot imagine what they are if they had seen the tag and still did that.

I'll bet you what happened, the dumb bitches who walked off probably assumed that the seller (your friend) had autism and so wouldn't 'make' a 'problem' if they didn't pay for them/took them and walked off.

Myself on the other hand, I've been DIAGNOSED with an autism disorder, I don't really believe it, but it gets me a paycheque every fortnight...

                              Iron...e? (Yes, I know it's spelt irony)

I'm trying to become a cop. I would of pulled out my cell phone, taken a video of all four of them, switched the phone to voice record, intercepted the suspects and asked for payment, if refusal was given, would call dispatch for backup and would perform a citizen's arrest if a unit was willing to come through and take over the arrest after it was effected.
