  • Can't have what isn't there

Not really a customer, so more of a Sightings thread.

I went off to the bank to do the deposit, and to stop by the store to get some chemicals to murder some ants.

While I was gone, CW took this call.

Caller: "Yeah, I need to speak to bhskittykatt to verify employment for [employee]."
CW: "I'm sorry, she's not here. Can I take a message?"
Caller *in a very snobby tone*: "I need to talk to her. It is important and I need to talk to her right now!"
CW: "I would love to transfer you, but she is not here. She is physically gone. She went to the bank."
Caller *suddenly cheery*: "Oh, okay then, I'll call back."

First of all, (1) we do our employment verification through a third party, the information for which I gave to [employee] yesterday, and (2) what part of "she's not here" don't you understand???

(She called back and I gave her the info she needed. It went uneventfully.)

Probably assumed your co-worker was lying about your not being there.

Why do people act like you must be chained to the desk and couldn't possibly walk away??

Oddly enough, I had something like this yesterday, albeit without suck on the caller's part. It happened at home.

My dad had rotator cuff surgery this past Thursday, and so he got some prescriptions for some drugs during his recovery. He was in the bathroom when the pharmacy calls.

Them: "Hi, this is <name> from <store> pharmacy. Can I speak to <my dad>, please?"
J2K: "Sorry, he can't come to the phone right now. Can I take a message?"
Them: "Well, this is in regards to the prescriptions he just gave us, I need to speak to him."
J2K: "Again, he can't come to the phone right now. I can have him call you back?"
Them: "Oh, that's all right. The number is <phone number>."
J2K: "All right. I'll pass the message along."

I knew they couldn't talk to me because of HIPAA, and they were polite about the whole thing.

It could be that they thought you were fielding calls for him. I know before I moved out, if my mum wasn't feeling well I'd just take a list of messages & she'd return any calls she wanted/needed to when she was feeling better.

Ahh, now there is this one person calling up for one of the partners of my business that has had the worst luck this week.

I swear every time they call the bosses' are out or busy. It doesn't help that they have a tendancy to call in the middle of our scheduled lunchbreak and expect to get through to people, or that one of the bosses operates from out of the office (and they haven't asked for a mobile number yet)

Every time they call I ask if they can leave a message and everytime I get told "tell them its Name from Company, they know exactly what it's about" and they refuse to leave a number as "they already have it"

Every time I pass on the message my bosses ask me who it is and what their number is and every time I tell them that they called in on a hidden number and didn't leave any details.

I've tried googling their company name but gotten too many hits for those initials so...

I think the worst is that after 2 weeks of phone calls they still haven't managed to find a single time that the bosses are free and they think i'm covering for them when the bosses want to know who you are and why you keep calling and want to speak to you but you refuse to give me your number!

            argh!!!!!!!

Last time I had that sort of go round, I simply told them that my Boss has told me directly that he has no idea who they are, what their number is and why they need to speak with them and that if they were not willing to provide the information, to stop calling. I got the phone equivalent of the catbutt face, and a peeved telemarketer, I had my bosses permission to do this, by the way =)

My old boss was the same way. I could tell them that if they didn't leave a number, they wouldn't get a callback, even if the boss did have the number already and did know what it was about.

But most of the time, it's just pushy, lying telemarketers who I wouldn't let get through to the boss, anyway.
