  • Interview Question

I got an interview for a new coffee and snacks store that was just built. (The name of this chain rhymes with Jim Morton's) Anyways, I am usually pretty good at interviews and can always think of questions to ask the interviewer when he or she asks if there are any questions that I have. But, this is the first time I am interviewing for a brand new restaurant. So when that time in the interview comes, what should I ask?

      Benefits
      Pay
      Hours/shifts
      Ability to advance
      Do they have tuition reimbursement

(these are general ones, I have never worked a new restaurant store/either ) Theyre a good start though.

Also, can I haz a donut?

I used to work there and then moved up to asst mngr. A new store is not that much different then any of there other stores. Just say/show that you are willing work as part of the new team to work together and help with the new store. Show some knowledge/interest in the company..ask questions. Be prepared to give/answer examples of how you would handle a passionate cx and different situations. Let us know how it goes!

Here are some that are generally covered, but if not, should leave you with some to ask.

            What is the pay?
            Are there benefits offered?
            Are there advancement opportunities?
How do they handle requests for days off?
What would your schedule be like?
How do they handle sick days, as in, what are their policies if you need to call off for some reason?
Do you get a discount on their products? What is the discount? Is it only during work days or do you get a discount on your days off as well? (These things vary from company to company, after all.)
            What would your duties be?
            What is the uniform?
Do they supply the uniform or do you need to buy various parts of it, such as shoes, pants, etc.?
During shifts, what breaks do you get?
Would you have a fixed schedule or would it vary week to week?
When would you be working, i.e., days, nights, weekends, etc.?
What is policy regarding switching or trading shifts with coworkers?
What is their smoke break policy? (If you smoke, of course.)
What is their break policy for nonsmokers? (If you don't.) Remember, while it is often forgotten by management, who often smoke themselves, if a company allows smokers to take smoke breaks, they cannot tell nonsmokers they can't have similar breaks. That would be discrimination. Yes, this is a discussion/argument/debate I have had many times over the years, being a nonsmoker in a smoker-heavy industry.
            How do they handle overtime?
If you work holidays, is there holiday pay?

These are just a few you may want to consider. These are just off the top of my head from 24+ years of working and interviewing for various jobs I have held.

Awesome. Thanks for all the questions. I took these with me and asked most of them. I will find out the 23rd if I got it or not. This would be a second job if I get it. Also, at my current job, they have an opening for a full-time staff writer, which I am thinking of applying for as well. I like to have a few options to go with.

Ya...always good to keep your options open. The writer job might be good if you can get it.
