This article really hit a nerve. This whole "be grateful you have a job" B.S. is just another excuse for companies to treat their employees like crap. Even worse, people buy into it because they think they have no other choice.

But you know what? You DO have a choice. You CAN find another job if you're willing to put the time and effort into it. I'm not trying to be one of those 'rah rah' cheerleader types or those 'power of positive thinking' types; reaching your goals means walking a long, hard, frustrating road filled with setbacks. All I'm saying is that successful people are the ones that find a way to reach their goals, instead of listing all of the reasons why their goals are unattainable.

#5 on that list is one reason why I get frustrated with working at the library, and that's because of the way the city's hiring system is structured.

Why oh why do I read the comments? Not only is there you should be happy you have a job, people are bashing other people's grammar and spelling. I KNOW I have crappy grammar and spelling. I can tell you for a fact that me loosing my job has nothing to do with that. Also just because you have awesome grammar and spelling doesn't mean you have superb skills in every job. Ugh. Btw no offense to those here who have awesome writing skills.

Some of the comments are pretty good, though. Here's one:

Don said... One problem that I see is that the company wants you to be 110% loyal to them, give up most of your personal life, and work for less money/ fewer raises, but the first time something happens...BAM, they want to fire you. They know that right now there are a lot more workers than jobs.
Most bosses are taking this opportunity to be jerks, and treat employees like crap so that they can feel better about themselves. Isn't corporate America wonderful????
I agree with this guy totally!

And the article itself was interesting, and confirmed a lot of my suspicions. 1 and 5 are the reasons I've finally turned in my notice at the fabric store. Come January, I start my new office job, and I am counting the days!

            Agree with Don as well.

And even though it looks bleek for now, one day things are going to work themselves out again. All of these companies that have taken advantage of the employer's market and recession by taking away perks (beyond just cost cutting) and installed newer insane rules and policies......there will be lots of mass exoduses, I can guarantee you of that.

Exactly. People give what they receive. You take care of your employees and treat them right, they'll give you all they've got and stay loyal. You cut workforce to the bone, bully your people and take away all perks, they'll give the bare minimum and vamoose the moment something else comes along. It happens time and time again, yet the suits Just Don't Get It.

That and they pull the guilt trip whenever something they take away or scuff on upsets their employees, besides the fact that while they do these things, they still expect a sunny attitude and twice or thrice the work from one person.

They hit the nail on the head with that list..and Don's comments too. What I can't stand when you look for a job and the posting is for a grunt job and the hiring manager demands asks for the big ass hot fudge sundae from you but will only give you a scoop of ice cream on a cone. Besides that, how most employers treat their employees like crap yet expect them to give 120%.
