  • "But I'm preeegnaaant!"

I was in the city yesterday, and a friend and I stopped at Coffee Place with Frozen Sugary Coffee Dessert Drinks. The great thing about the place we go to is that it has soft chairs, and window seats, which, if we get there in a not-so-busy time, we can get. They always go first.

We didn't get the window seats this time around, but still got cushy seats. There was a couple of teenagers in the window seat, and in the other set of window seats, a woman with a couple of kids who were being loud, and throwing trash around, and generally being unpleasant.

A couple of minutes later, a pregnant woman shows up.

Pregnant bitch: Excuse me, I'd like to sit there.
Teenager: We only just got here. Sorry.
Pregnant bitch: No, I want to sit there. Move. I'm pregnant. I need to sit down.
Teenager: -looks at several other places to sit, quite pointedly-
Pregnant bitch: I want to see the vieeew! I want to peeeopleee watch!
Mother with kids: I don't mind moving (ignoring her children shrieking about not wanting to move).
Pregnant bitch: No, you're a mummy! We mummies deserve respect, you know! They should move for me.

I, being rather impolite, had to be snarky, and say to my friend, "wow, that woman's so entitled! I feel bad for that eventual baby!"

I luckily, just got a glare, and thankfully, the teenagers didn't move! Pregnant bitch had to stomp her ass over to the wood/plastic seats!

Who wants to bet that she complained about how rude today's teenagers are? Heaven forbid someone doesn't immediately give into her entitled demands.

Well at least she knows what she's in for in about 15 years.

Up until I got to that line, my chivalry was poised to fully challenge any able-bodied person who did not give up his/her seat.

        Now it ain't.

Seconded. If there hadn't been anyplace else to sit I would agree that the youngest/most able-bodied should offer up their seat. If there are other clean seats available, all bets are off for making someone give up a good seat.

I also believe that the person getting the seat is obligated to at least show a little graciousness and gratitude in accepting it. Starting out with the whiny, self-entitled complaint is *not* the way to start the process.

I don't know much about pregnancy, but isn't it a bad idea to drink coffee while pregnant?

Caffeine can cause jitteriness in the fetus/neonate but otherwise is not known to cause any problems during pregnancy.

Normally, I'd be happy to defer to a pregnant woman in issues of seating, parking, etc. But if there is a seat available, she's on her own . . . esp if she's going to be an EW.

I liked the shout-out a brake-stander gave a pregnant jaywalker after screeeeching to a halt:

Not quite, they have new studies-it's not at all harmless-Caffeine may decrease blood flow to the placenta, which may harm the baby, consuming over 200 mg(or two cups of regular drip coffee) increases the risk of miscarriage twofold. And consuming 4-7 cups of coffee increases chances of stillbirth, over 7 cups the risk doubles.

I wasn't aware of those studies. Thanks for passing that along I'll have to get them and read up.

All she had to do was ask politely. Apparently that's too difficult.

I also agree that a person should offer his/her seat to someone who is elderly or disabled (although I've never really seen that practice in restaurants) as long as there aren't any seats left. (or a front seat if needed). but the OP made it seem like there were seats available just not a window seat. I'm sorry but being pregnant doesn't grant preferred seating!

I offer my seat to someone who is disabled, elderly, or injured (like broken leg or arm, etc.). I would never offer my seat to a pregnant woman because unlike being disabled, old or hurt, pregnancy is something you choose. I feel sorry for people whose mobility is limited due to things beyond their control. I do not feel sorry for someone who's pregnant. And if some pregnant bitch gets an attitude with me for not worshiping her and her precious clump of cells, then she'd get some of my more colorful insults.

so? i was too, at one time and i never pulled this kind of shit on anyone (too damned stubborn to let someone give anything up for me, but i was polite about it).

the minute she pulled the 'entitlement card' crap, i lost whatever shred of sympathy i might have held. other seats are there, grab one or stfu.

Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

I have to agree with the majority here. While I am a gentleman and will give up my seat to a female (disabled or not does not matter), elderly, or any disabled person..if there is other places to sit and they get all EW about it? They are on their own.

Just a side note : I know that the giving up of a seat to a female is a bit old fashioned and all..it was just the way I was raised. I also let people with only a few items in front of me when in stores, open doors for anybody, and say please and thank you
