  • It's Not Delivery, It's De-Lupo**

I'm posting this becuase KiaKat told me to.

Ok, so I'm a shipper/receiver person at my job. The loading dock and back stockroom attached? My territory. My dungeon. MINE.

Now, as it's a college bookstore, Textbook Hell is in the middle of our busy season. MY Black Friday is two weeks long, and has only just begun, really.

Few bits of descriptive here. My loading dock is fairly large. It can fit a freight truck with trailer, standard UPS truck and standard FedEx truck, as long as they're not all delivering pallets. One particular freight truck driver has been giving me problems for the last few months, as I've prepped for this semester. He drives for a company whose name is the color of bananas. Yesterday, he brought a pallet. UPS and FedEx were pulling in around the same time, and were delivering loose cartons. So, they pulled in, one alongside each side of his trailer. He'd arrived just before them, and was finishing unloading and locking up his trailer when UPS and FedEx arrive and start unloading cartons. (both of whom have had the same delivery drivers since I've been here, so we all joke around a lot, in a snarky kind of way.) I trust them enough to unload safely, while I grab a pallet jack and move the pallet safely out of the way.

I just finish manuevering it where I want it to go, when I hear a voice:

"if you just wait a mnute, I HAVE to move!" Your trucks are in my way!!"

I wander back and...freight guy is bitching at UPS and FedEx guys. Apparently, they were blocking him...somehow. By...being parked on either side of him, giving him a clear path to the exit??

He had room to manuever, a straight shot to the parking lot. Hell,I could've driven his truck out. But oh nooooo, he required that UPS and FedEx stop what they're doing, get out of his way, so he could leave and HE could stay on his schedule. (Nevermind that the others had schedules of their own, too...)

That's about the time I showed up.

Side note here, folks. It's been a long fscking week. Ask KiaKat, ask xx_wolfie_xx or anyone in cschatter chat. I'm not a happy Lupo. I'm quite stressed, highly irritable, and at this point in time, I was also tired, cranky, and working on hour 6 of a 10 hour day with no food since almost 8 hours prior.

I didn't even TRY to be polite...

Me: Are you fucking kidding me?!? seriously, are you six years old? 'oh noes, you're in my space, too close to my truck! Mine's bigger, I'm in charge you have to mooooooove!' Is that what I am seriously hearing!?
Him: But I need the space to drive out!! Safely!!
Me: you have a good 40 feet of clear space before needing to turn, and plenty of clearance for that turn, and that's AFTER you're away from these trucks. If you can't handle something that simple, maybe your company needs to take a closet look at your CDL certification.
    Him:
    Me:

Wouldn't you know it, he managed to drive away just fine after that, even with the two other trucks sitting there. go figure

After he left, UPS guy looks at me.

UPS: There's my friend! How you doing on this wonderful new day, Lupo?!
FedEx Guy: You a brave brave stupid man...
    Me: <staaare>
UPS: Well, it's been fun hanging out, but I gotta get outta here. Have a good one!!
FedEx: So...can I wait till he leaves, because, you know I need the room to--
    Me: <GLARE>
    FedEx: ...nevermind...see you later!!

    Buh. The end!!

I love how the FedEx guy was calling the UPS guy stupid, only to try and step in it bigger. That's awesome.

I like your UPS and FedEx guys. The Banana freight dude is, sadly, quite representative of all of the species I have had the misfortune to observe.

I remember that the lighting company had a special hatred for them, even as they used them because they were the cheapest. That's just one of many reasons that company no longer exists.

Thank goodness I never had to deal with truckers. We only had the Argix truck and UPS which mostly delivered music stuff and had to take it to that department; they usually came in the front door unless they actually had something for receiving.

Now at work I just have to deal with dodging the trucks getting in and out of the parking lot. Sometimes when they are backed up (and there are 3 warehouses on the access road) the trucks will park along the road. They had to put up cones to keep them from parking to close too the employee lot entrance. (They even painted little squares on the pavement so when they have to move the cones, like, for instance, when it snows, they can see just where to put them back.)

The fun thing is when you see some idiot truck driver manage to turn into the employee parking lot, at the entrance to which is a sign that says Employee and Visitor Parking Only, No Trucks and is not designed to accommodate 18-wheelers...then watch them drive around in circles trying to figure out how the hell to get back out without hitting something. Usually it involves running over a curb at some point.

I bet your banana driver is related to the one(s) who keeps hitting the signs and trees in our parking lots; we've lost a tree and 3-signs to them!

I know from working in stores that truckers are sometimes as bad as SC's. But wow. You should have checked his rig for truck nuts, because you could have made him forfeit them.

The vendors at my store either adore me or fear me. Three strikes against my annoyance field and my receiver is told not to accept anything from them until they call corporate and explain that until they feel like following standard practice for the company, I don't feel like cleaning up after them
