  • Wow, someone was quick

So my 3rd cousin is now pregnant again with her 2nd child. 1st child is almost two and is adorable as anything.

What made me laugh however was what happened the other day, which was posted on Facebook:

She was planning to start toilet-training him when he was 2, but he wound up doing it himself almost. Just said "toilet", they put him on there and he did it. Apparaently however, now whenever they try and put a nappy on him he kicks up a fuss.

I was actually surprised he took to it that quickly, but I sorta joked the other day that he's practicing to be the "big brother" for when Tadpole comes along.

That said, what should I get for him? I was planning on getting a little gift for him once his sibling was born so he wouldn't feel left out.

The best gift you can give? When Mom's in labor, offer to take the kiddie to their favorite place. Then, the kid thinks, "Wow, my cousin is spending special time with me!" The kid is out of the hair of the parents and it gives you something to do. This would also work anytime during the first few weeks, if you won't be there for the actual birth.

My brothers and i are fairly close in age. Ben is only 16 months younger than me, and my other brother, Alex is 4 years.

I remember when my grandmother would get us a small gift when it was one of our siblings birthdays. She would do it because she said "I didn't want you all to feel left out on your siblings birthday."

It usually consisted of like Barbie clothes, or a hot wheels car. Nothing incredibly big.

My suggestion for your cousin's first born...i would find out what he really likes. Such as Batman, Superman, Handy Manny...anything that he's really into. And find something that's similar to it and maybe get it for him. You don't need to get a biiiig thing, just something small, just to make him feel special too.

Balloons are nice too. To a two year old, balloons are amazing! Maybe one that says "i'm the big brother" or something like that. I would think that anything with the words "big brother" would be appropriate.

Or just make a big deal about HIM during the new baby too, would make him feel good. At age two, the world revolves around them, so it might be a good idea...
I can only please one person a day, today isn't your day, and tomorrow doesn't look good either.

When you arrive in the house to visit after the baby arrives, make a fuss of Big Brother FIRST, before you start cooing over the baby. Its a little thing, but it makes a big difference to small people.

Its so cute that he toilet-trained himself, just to be a big boy. i think that's fantastic. Handy Manny, Cars, anything like that is usually very popular with 2 year old boys.

Wow! That's one impressive kid! Do little kids still get a kick out of under-roos? Some with his favorite characters might be in order :-)

A magazine rack for next to his toilet. :-)

Or if he continues to advance like this, A bottle of Glenlivet, some cigars and a hooker would work too.

Yeah I'm thinking that, although I think that 3rd cousin is planning on going the Pull-Ups route (aka training pants) for a bit, so he can get used to wear underwear.

Big Boy Undies. Disposable or 'continence'-washable, depending on his parents' preference.

That may be something you want to give as a reward now, however.

When my brother was born, I was given a baby doll. Whatever my brother did, I had my doll do. Mum would breastfeed, I would lift my shirt and 'breastfeed'. My brother went into his bassinet, my doll went in too. Apparently the only feeding I missed for *months* was the ones when I was asleep.

                3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
