  • Baby mania!

I found out this morning that a girl I went to primary school with is pregnant. That got me thinking: quite a few people I know are pregnant lately....or have had kids.

-1 girl I went to school with has a 3-year-old girl.
-1 girl I went to school with has a 2-year-old son.
-1 guy I went to school with is the father of a newborn son.
-One of my former coworkers is about 31/32 weeks pregnant.
-A girl I went to primary school with is 13 weeks pregnant.
-My 3rd cousin is around 9-10 weeks pregnant.

What is being put into the water?

It seems that a lot of people around our age want to be young parents. One of the guys from my high school class isn't quite 23, but is already looking for someone to have a healthy long-term relationship with because he doesn't want to be an old dad. Same with the majority of my friends, though most of them haven't yet found a partner that they would like to have kids with.

Rugz and I chose to have kids 'early' because I was told that I would be infertile by 25. We're just lucky enough that our relationship works for us and that we're both happy to work on it and compromise when there are problems.

Between 14 of my friends/classmates there are 19 kids and 3 current pregnancies(not including my two kids)

I think it goes in waves. I make a lot of baby quilts since like everyone knows someone who's having a baby. What I've noticed is that what gender people are having seems to move in waves too. One year I'll sell out of girl/gender neutral quilts the next year it's boy quilts.

aunt (in her early 40's) in Australia (her 2nd, just had the 1st(girl) about a year ago) - Girl
            1 friend(mid 30's) (her first) - Girl, and her sister(2nd)
            another friend(mid-late 30's) = 3rd - Girl (the older 2 are 1, and 1)
friend's step mom - 2nd(friend is my age, and the step mom just had her 1st(girl) about a year ago)
            a cousin's friend (early 20's)- 1st - Girl
            a friend's step-sister (late 20's?) i think this is her 1st

seven babies that are all due around late may to early july.... and the majority of them it looks like will be girls, if not all of them... Neat!

its a thing people are into they want to be able to run with the kids better and rather not worry about trying to get preggers later its almost better to them to get pregnant young and then try to get a better themselves in the terms of career or economical standing than to risk not being parents at all.

i do remember in school i had the young parents cause my mom and dad had me at 23 and 25 where all my class mates had them around 30. though most of my class mates also had older brothers and sisters but the few oldest or onlys parents where still older than mine.

I am having a girl in April. Random question, is Cousteau a horrible middle name? Her first name is Harper.
We ask ourselves when we get in a fix, what would Popeye do in a tight spot like this? He'd race for his true love and easily win it, in an old spinach can with a mast stuck in it. -Jimmy Buffett

                  Love it!!
I personally believe a first name should not be too cutesy as or bizarre! But Cousteau as a middle name is good and I like the name Harper..... the 2 sound good together.

Haha thanks, that was my thought, that Harper was "normal" enough to pull off putting Cousteau in there. My family is not too keen on it, but they will come around.

If you think its 'in the water', you should have been paying more attention in health class.
Something kind of sad about the way that things have come to be.

I've noticed it too. Just about every female friend or acquaintance I had in high school now has kids (as well as some classmates from grade school), and most of them are in shitty financial situations and can't afford them anyhow. I'm guessing most were just too stupid to use a condom like most people in this town, and some had their kids under interesting circumstances:

                        - One friend got pregnant from a one-night stand while working for a traveling circus. Her circus work does not count as real employment and since it's the only job she's ever had, she has no actual job history. Uses her grandma's SS money to pay for the kid.

                        - Another got into fabulous shape to enter the National Guard, but got pregnant around graduation. Had the kid and gained about 200 pounds.

                        - Guy friend's ex screwed him when he was drunk and didn't tell him a child resulted from said union until the kid was about two. Friend is forbidden from seeing said child until he can pay child support.

                        - Grade school idiot got pregnant in college and was forced by her mother to give the kid away. In an act of retaliation, about a year later, this girl was in the paper again after birthing her second one to get back at her mommy for making her get rid of her first one.

                        - Not a classmate, but BF's niece got married at 16 and had a kid at 17. Niece's mom (BF's sister) now raises the aforesaid child because her daughter is too busy playing house with her boytoy. You'd think the sister would have raised her daughter better since said sister birthed her daughter when she herself was only 17.

And there are four or five pregnant women in the office, one of whom was giggling when she said she can't afford a baby, but would keep it anyway . There are more classmates who I just saw out and about with their kids of varying ages.

Boyfriend and I are holding off on the kids until I've gotten into my teaching career, so at this rate, it will probably be around late 20's. My mum had me when she was 27, so it won't be much different. My cousin had her kid around 25 so it's not that much of an age difference.
