  • If you don't have it,tell me

Mrs Frantic & I took my mother to a nice, well known & long-time local steakhouse for her birthday. Our server was a cute & charming young lady, but I kinda got the impression she was new.Turns out I was right.

We ordered drinks & appetizers, things were going well until we got our entrees.I ordered the buffalo, medium rare (NEVER order game well-done,you end up with shoe leather),to my suprise cute & charming brings me....a New York Strip.

Givin' her & the chef the benefit of the doubt, after all, everybody makes mistakes,I have her take it back which she does.

A bit later she comes back with my meal....a sirloin.

I look at her & ask "Are you new to waitressing?"
    "Yes,am I doing something wrong?"
"Well darlin',one of the things you never do is bring the wrong thing out to a customer if you know it's wrong,it doesn't matter what the chef says"
    "What's wrong?"
"This is sirloin, not buffalo,is your manager in?"
"No" she says, getting a very worried look on her face.
"Don't worry,I don't want to complain about you,but I will have a word with him about your chef that apparently doesn't think people can tell the difference between beef & buffalo"

The next day I called & talked to the manager....well now I understand. He had absolutely no interest in my politely worded complaint, other than to say he'd talk to the chef.

    We won't be going back.

If I may ask, how does one tell the difference between beef and buffalo? I've had buffalo burgers (very nice!) but I didn't really notice any difference in the meat. I also didn't pay much attention, so...

buffalo tends to have a lower fat content (in this case, the marbling would most likely be less and different), beyond that, perhaps the meat coloring or the scent?
        look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

Geeze, they could have at least sent out a decent cut of meat. Talk about adding insult to injury.

Sirloin? Seriously? And frankly, when my husband brings home strip steaks (which he does sometimes because he is careless in the grocery store), I usually lose interest in eating the damn thing before the halfway point. And I can cook a very nice steak, so it ain't my cooking.

You ordered Buffalo and instead got New York. I guess geographically, this would have been a correct order.

Did they figure to pull one over on you by saving a few bucks on meat? I can certainly tell the difference between Buffalo and Beef! Heck, Beefalo is different also!

Yeah, there is a place in Rock Hill that is a little mom and pop place that used to be awesome. Now they're trying to save a few bucks by sending out an odor eater when I order a ribeye. They're basically charging steak house prices for truck stop cuts.

I order steak every time because I figure steak is less likely to be fucked up than some of their other choices. And I pay it, knowing what I'm getting. My elderly mom in law will eat if we bring her there, so I suck it up and chew my overpriced odor eater without complaint.

Husband was like "How was your steak?" last time. I told him "well, I wasn't disappointed."

Saving money by serving shitty fare to people and then overcharging them is not how you save money. At least, over the long haul, it's not.

Is there perhaps someone higher up that you could talk to, like maybe the owner? With a place like that reputation can make or break you and pulling stunts like that is a good way to ruin a reputation.
