  • You must be really brave, or really stupid..

This happened a few years back and I recently decided to post,I'll start with a small back story.
The town I live in has a fairly high crime rate, police sirens go off every Saturday and nearly every news article in the paper is abuse, robbery, fights or some other crap. Anyway, I live a couple of blocks away from a Gas Station, which has in fact been broken into or had somebody trying, the owners have been friends of my family for years,my father worked there for a long time before moving on to something else.Since they are the owners they carry firearms (behind the counter of course) and tell their employees to do the same (since they had trouble in the past).
    End of back story.

So I walk in about 30-45 minutes before they close and head over to the drink isle to grab a soda (since I like to have one on hand for the weekend.) as I'm doing this a guy around my age comes in,he looked around 18-20 give or take, and was looking kinda nervous, he made small talk with the owner and browsed through the items on the counter, I was watching from the isle and the guy asked if they had had any trouble with robbers recently. That kinda clued me in to what might be going on so I leaned against the cooler (we have crackheads and junkies living in this area, along with the very occasional drunk. and he had a look about him.) The owner who is six feet tall and some odd inches, just said "Not really." and pulled out his automatic Glock with a burst attachment, (I only knew this after the guy left) and placed it on the counter. The guy's eye widen and he muttered a little "I can see why" and said goodbye and left.
After he left I came up with up my coke and asked what happened, and the owner told me what I just told you, he joked around at how the guys face went pale and laughed, I paid for my drink and left.

Just how dumb do you have to be to ask a question like that and not expect somebody to get suspicious of your actions!?,even if you were just making chit-chat, why would you go inside a store without purchasing anything and ask that? you wouldn't go inside a supermarket and get in line at the register just so you could talk to the cashier unless you want to be creepy. By the way,I HATE my neighborhood with a passion.

That reminds me of the L.A. riots. I always remember seeing a street-side shot of all the rioting going on, with stores being broken into and stuff being taken, except for one little store. It looked like a family of Koreans owned the place, and they were in the store windows with various rifles in their hands and handguns on their hips and in waistbands standing guard. The whole area in front of the store was the only clear space on the street.
The Rich keep getting richer because they keep doing what it was that made them rich. Ditto the Poor.
"Hy kan tell dey is schmot qvestions, dey is makink my head hurt."
    Hoc spatio locantur.

That reminds me of a story my dad told me about getting lost in Wash., DC one time. At night, in an area, where shall we say, he stood out like a sore thumb. He said he finally saw a VERY well lit gas station, everything around it was dark, and pulled in to ask for directions. Dad said there were two guys there; both VERY large, and both with VERY visible firearms….My dad, being chatty Charlie said they told him they were ex-military, and the lights plus the guns kept the undesireables away. The guys were happy to do help him, and basically told him, get back on this road, DO NOT stop for lights etc until you reach this point….just keep going. Dad didn’t think they had much of a crime problem either
