  • What cartoons did you grow up with?

So while bored out of my brain (and also having a friend introduce me to Human Centipede (do not ask me to describe it here as it is DEFINITELY NSFW)) I stumbled across a few clip shows of 90's cartoon theme songs. Things like X-Men, Recess, Pepper Ann, Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs and so forth. Which led me to thinking: What cartoons did you folks grow up with?

One I swear I've seen somewhere before and have started re-watching is a French cartoon known as Bots Master. I watched the intro and I'm thinking: I KNOW I've heard this somewhere before but I can't remember. Although the series is hilarious, there's also a few scenes that make me wonder how they got past the censors (one of the robots talks about "buying a girl" in one particular episode, meaning the model in a catalogue next to another robot)

I also remember Darkwing Duck, Recess, Tiny Toon and Animaniacs. I also used to LOVE watching Saturday Disney (as it sounds, a show that would run for a few hours and would feature Disney cartoons, which is how I saw Darkwing and Recess. There were three hosts and in between the cartoons, they'd go and talk to people about their hobbies, careers, holidays etc.) and Sailor Moon. When I got a bit older, I got addicted to the Pokemon series

Too many to mention so I'll just say Beavis and Butthead because that's a cartoon.

Heh, funny story: In my 7th-grade science class, on the first day all us students had to get together in groups and fill out sheets about the people in the group, as a way of "getting to know each other." One of the things we had to list about each group member is their favorite TV show.

So many of us, including Yours Truly, said Beavis and Butthead for that question, that the teacher got mad and lectured us "I don't want to see any more people putting down Beavis and Butthead for the answer to that question. Think of something else. Fake it if you have to."

Flintstones. My all time favorite. Oh, and Top Cat was my favorite before the Flintstones!

Jetsons, Underdog, Bugs Bunny and other Looney Toons shows. Rocky & Bullwinkle. Roger Ramjet!

Not cartoons, but shows which used a type of marionette: Stingray, Thunderbirds and Fireball XL-5. They were created by Gerry Anderson, who later created the TV show, Space: 1999.

          Oh, yes, Jonny Quest!

Gargoyles! Oh sure, there were other shows I watched. But Gargoyles was my favorite, and is still one of my favorite TV series ever. It probably IS my favorite non-Japanese animated TV series. My screen name is, in fact, from a character in the series. I really wish Disney would release the second half of the second season on DVD.

              TaleSpin
              Chip 'n Dale's Rescue Rangers
              Gummie Bears

etc. Disney afternoon was good stuff. I recently got Volumes 1 and 2 of TaleSpin on DVD and oh my goodness, the nostalgia

Oh hell, too many to count. I definitely remember getting up at ass o'clock on Saturday morning to watch Sonic SatAM, and watching AoStH (Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog) and Pokemon on school days.

Besides that, I grew up with the Nicktoons, WB and Cartoon Network. Doug, Rugrats (which I hate), Ren and Stimpy (still a fave), Rocko's Modern Life, Freakazoid, Animaniacs, and everything on early Cartoon Network like Looney Tunes and Tex Avery cartoons.

And I still love cartoons now. I've been watching a lot of Invader Zim lately because I love that little mutant.

Oh yeah, can't forget Rocko's Modern Life.

Also Ren and Stimpy. But not the revival that was on Spike TV some years back. That sucked frankly.

Some of the ones I remember watching back in the 1950s are:

                        Ruff & Reddy
                        Heckle & Jeckle
                        Tom & Jerry
                        Popeye
                        Mighty Mouse
                        Gumby
                        Woody Woodpecker

I just had to google Human Centipede.

                          Anyway...

                          Let's see:

                          Jem
                          Transformers
                          G.I. Joe
                          GoBots
                          He-Man
                          She-Ra
                          Voltron
                          Robotech
                          Thundercats
                          Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
                          DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

One of the greatest cartoons ever is One Froggy Evening

Pre-net days I read a story about a production that involved a live orchestra playing the Carl Stalling scores along with the some of original Chuck Jones cartoons, the musicians said it was the hardest gig they'd ever done!
